Fantastic location and lovely, comfortable home
What we loved about this Villa: great communication with owners, very friendly property manager, homey feel, comfortable beds (this is pretty uncommon I've found, even in relatively high-end places), gorgeous views, well-equipped kitchen, outdoor shower, decorated tastefully, direct balcony from all bedrooms, nice breezes so no need for A/C, and close to hiking and a wonderful little village and beautiful beach.
The technology was a little dated (small TV and old Ipod doc) but we didn't care. We weren't there to watch TV.
When we were there we did some exploring to find the "best" beach on Tortola. We found the closest beach to the house, Cane Garden Bay, to be one of the best. We loved the gentle waves, calm swimming water, pretty sand, and convenience of bars and restaurants right on the beach. Cane Garden is a really lovely little town. The atmosphere is so mellow and the people are so friendly. They also have 200-year old rum distillery there and if you hang around town you're bound to meet some of the family members. The rum is quite tasty and very affordable (don't buy it at the grocery store, buy it directly from the distillery). And this beautiful little town with its gorgeous beach is only a 3-minute drive from the Villa. It's also a 10-minute walk down and a 13-minute uphill walk back. The roads can be a little precarious to walk on (and to drive on) so be careful. But it's a nice little workout to walk to town and back.
Beaches we visited on Tortola: Smugglers, East Long Bay, West Long Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Brewer's Bay. Out of those Cane Garden and Brewer's were our favorites.
Brewer's Bay beach is about a 10-minute drive from the Villa. It's much more rustic and barely developed. We actually prefer this type of undeveloped beach but when we wanted to be closer to the Villa or to have more options for food and drink we went to Cane Garden. There is one little bar/restaurant at Brewer's that closes at around 3.
Another favorite for us was the proximity to Sage Mountain National Park. This is a lovely place to hike. It's less than 10 minutes away by car. We got up every morning at around 7 and hiked there (we had to work off some of that rum and all those pineapples!). If you're used to extensive hiking you may find it small but we weaved back and forth on the various trails and easily got an hour-long hike each day.
All in all, we LOVED the mood and feel on Tortola and thought the location and vibe of the villa was perfect.
