(AC is not available & not needed based on most people’s need for comfort even in the heat of summer. But please make your decisions based on the weather & your personal preference to have AC.)
Please please contact owners or have understanding for using the incinerator toilet; when used appropriately, it is extremely efficient with no issues or odors.
In below freezing temperatures, the water MUST be turned off to the cottage - unless the heat is on & the cottage is occupied. We ask guests to please help us protect & preserve this cabin as it is unique & therefore has unique needs to consider.
(Anyone wishing to rent just the cottage is welcome to inquire about greatly reduced prices.)
Third structure
is chapel - or artist studio, or yoga, workspace, or micro-event space.
This personal sanctuary is another hand made piece of artistic carpentry with high quality hemlock with precise & beautiful beams - & smells like a cedar dreamland.
Was built for a stone carpenter for her workshop & as a museum for her pieces of art. The aroma is phenomenal, & it’s inspiring to just sit and read - inside or on the large deck off of the back of this sanctuary within nature.
We have thought of offering this gorgeous sanctuary for micro-weddings & hosting the groomsmen in the cottage, & the bridal party in the main home for a wooded fairytale wedding. Our hearts & minds are still open
to such a special occasion. Guests with this special request can ask about this possibility.
All guests:
Come getaway & relax with nature in a gorgeous, secluded home that could be a piece of art in & of itself, or spend your days hiking until your heart’s content!
(Please note that the prices may be negotiable based on the dates, number of guests, & whether or not both homes will be utilized.)
Main home:
Custom built by original owner - massive oak timbers that are beautiful to see, mortise & tenon joints that are pieces of art & demonstrate craftsmanship rarely found in architecture.
After soaking in the unique carpet inside, bring your hammock or Eno & relax among the trees to rest - or your laptop and work in nature - using our high speed internet.
Tons of trees & wildlife abound. Mountain views in the winter & lush foliage in the summer. Lots of activities- varying on the time of year -from art festivals to inter-tubing down a river …. & plenty of HIKING EVERYWHERE - just minutes away.
About the stay:
The main home has 4 levels - all open.
Bottom/lower-ground level is closed garage (with extra toilet & refrigerator for additional food storage space.)
The 3 Bedrooms of the main home boast views - not walls.
(Please note that the bedrooms do not have walls on all 4 sides. There’s a large privacy screen that can be (carefully) moved/used if needed for more privacy, and the 3d loft bed cannot be seen from any of the lower levels.) But the open space is intentional, so guests should be aware in case that is a problem.
2 bedrooms are located on the upper-ground level with a bathroom & a laundry area. It’s accessible from a short set of external stairs in the back of the home or from a set of internal spiral stairs from the front/door, bottom entrance - which is the garage level. It has a monitor kerosene heater & a Mitsubishi split heating/cooling unit.
The main level has kitchen, dining, TV, wood burning stove, bathroom with shower, and windows on 3 sides. This level is accessible via internal spiral stairs OR an external set of stairs. It’s heated and cooled via wood stove or Mitsubishi split system.
The birds will come visit on their swing, bathe, & drink water right outside the dining area window. Please feel free to feed them with the birdseed we provide. (& close the windows because they will fly in & join you if given a chance to visit. :). (If this happens, & it happens often — please open the door & top window in the loft so that they may return to the trees.)
Speaking of the loft, the third bedroom is at the top loft area after climbing the last level of gorgeous wooden spiral stairs- (4th level)- with a unique ‘sky-walk’ to a gorgeous window where you can enjoy coffee & mountain views.
There are 3 indoor spiral staircases. Therefore, guests need to be physically able to traverse stairs & be sure-footed on gravel outside- as well as naturally existing changes in uneven terrain- as this is a mountain & wilderness area- not a flat, landscaped space.
Younger or older guests may not be comfortable with the physical space, and we encourage guests to use common sense regarding who is/isn’t physically able to enjoy this type of property.
Our home is minutes from Roan Mountain, Carver’s Gap, Mount Mitchell; short drive to Biltmore & Asheville, or Johnson City, TN.
High speed internet available at the main house.
There are 3 large structures; 2 are dwellings. The third can be a chapel for micro weddings, small events, or studio for art, etc.
