The Sugar Lodge is a beautiful site, as said in the description. The lawn with an abundance of seating areas, we took full advantage of as it was a perfect weather weekend. Our dog had a wonderful time running and playing in the yard. The barn was great for pool and ping pong between our sons. The location was just as described, near Bemus Point, and the pond, although we did not swim was a lovely spot.
It is clear when entering the lodge, that it is a home away from home for the family. However, the number of personal photographs, the abundance of wall taxidermy, and the chatchkeyes on every surface was just a little hard to take. But, the fireplace was amazing , and since the evenings were cool, we all enjoyed it.
It was difficult to prepare a meal in the kitchen as there is very little available counter space, and incovvenient to serve it in the dining room, which was located around the corner, through a sitting area. The large table in the great room allowed a comfortable meal though.
I found that with the warnings of the well drying up and possible septic overflowing, I felt a little unnerved every time a person took a shower or used the water.
We thought the price of 375.00 a night high for the Jamestown area, especially when required to bring sheets, towels, paper products, and clean the place before leaving.
