Spacious 4 BDR/3 BA 2 Acre property one minute from Lake Michigan-Dog Friendly!
Convenient location with a remote feel and plenty of room to stretch out and play, The House@63 is a spacious dog-friendly property with a fenced-in play and pet area and a mostly fenced two-acre yard with a rambling lawn perfect for anyone looking for a little space. Enjoy a fire in the large outdoor fire pit, play a few rounds of cornhole, kick a soccer ball around, and practice your disc golf with several baskets set up around the property! Grill up some dinner and dine outside on the deck with serene pond views and beautiful breezes. Star gaze, collect lightning bugs, and then fall asleep listening to the waves on Lake Michigan.
The House@63 was built in 1947 by a Benton Harbor fruit wholesaler. We have done our best to maintain the character and period details of the house while updating it for today’s lifestyle. Enjoy the large and comfortable living area with original hardwood floors, arches, and many period furnishings. Cuddle up on the oversized sectional couch, listen to some albums on the record player, or watch a movie on the large smart TV. Spread out on the beautiful bright comfy sun porch and watch the water birds come and go in the wetland pond, take a nap on the extra long daybed, read one of many provided books in peace, enjoy dinner at the expansive dining table, or play one of many provided games and/or puzzles with the family.
The House@63 features a midcentury era vintage-looking but fully modern and well-equipped kitchen including an air fryer, toaster, microwave, coffee bar, RO water filtration system, and stainless appliances. We provide the basics like oil, s & p, and sugar, along with a well-stocked spice cabinet. Outside there are two grills for your enjoyment, one gas and one charcoal. You can grill up some of the bountiful local offerings available at the farm stands and grocers.
The House@63 has four bedrooms all updated with new mattresses and pillows, high thread count cotton sheets, cozy comforters, and cotton quilts. There are plentiful hooks, mirrors, storage, and hangers for each room. Two bedrooms are on the main level, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. Two more bedrooms are upstairs, one with a king bed and one with two twin beds. There is ample space in the upstairs king bedroom for a (provided) queen air mattress if more sleeping space is needed. There is a third twin bed on the sunny upstairs landing perfect for lounging, reading, and cat naps. The twin bedroom has blackout shades.
The House@63 has three beautifully updated full bathrooms with robe hooks and ample storage for toiletries. There are two bathrooms on the main level, one with a bathtub/shower combo and one with shower only. The third bathroom is on the lower level and has a large shower with a handheld sprayer, perfect for rinsing everyone after a day at the beach! We provide quality shampoo, conditioner, locally handmade soap, hair dryers, towels, and washcloths.
The lower level of The House@63 features a large laundry room which includes a full-size HE washer and dryer, a large laundry-folding table, iron & ironing board, and provided laundry supplies.
The House@63 is located on the Lake Michigan side of M-63, literally a one minute drive to Hagar Beach which is dog-friendly and has ample parking and a large playground for the kids. The property is also 5 minutes from Roadside Park, another dog-friendly beach with no stairs, 7 minutes from Rocky Gap Beach (for the rock hounds), 8 minutes from Jean Klock Park, a beautiful long beach with no stairs, and 11 minutes from Silver Beach Park in downtown St. Joseph which features a giant (free) splash pad, carousel, and playgrounds. Silver Beach Park is also steps from all of the wonderful shops, restaurants, live music venues, art galleries, breweries, wineries, bakeries etc that St. Joe and Benton Harbor have to offer. Charming South Haven beaches, shops, and restaurants are a 20 minute drive north and the quaint towns of Saugatuck and Douglas are only 35 minutes north.
The House@63 has several beach towels, chairs, coolers, and sand toys which you are welcome to borrow! And if outdoor activities are your thing, The House@63 is 4 minutes from Riverside Kayak Park, 9 minutes from Sarett Nature Center, and 10-20 minutes away from several disc golf courses, including River Park in Benton Harbor and the new Lake Arvesta Farms in South Haven. The property is only 20 minutes from the Kal Haven Trailhead in South Haven where you can ride your bike all the way to Kalamazoo! M-63 is also well-known in the area for its wide shoulders and beautiful rolling hills and views of Lake Michigan, perfect for road bikers.
It’s impossible to fit in the space how much there is to do and see in Southwest Michigan in every season, with warm summer beaches, stunning fall foliage drives, and magically snowy winter activities like ice skating and Nordic skiing! Plan to catch at least one awe-inspiring sunset on Lake Michigan during your stay. It’s definitely a thing here.

Zu Gast bei Kara
Welcome to the house at 63! We’re so happy you found us. I’m Kara, one of your hosts. I’m an Illinois native who spent the majority of my childhood summers with my family playing along the shores of Lake Michigan. We stayed in various rental houses, campsites, and relatives homes from Chicago up to Sleeping Bear Dunes. It’s long been a dream of mine to own a home in southwest Michigan, both to escape the brutal North Carolina summers (where we live most of the year) and to be closer to my large and delightful family scattered around the Midwest. Part of my lakehouse dream has always included opening our home to guests from (we hope!) all over the world to experience the beauty and serenity of southwest Michigan and introduce guests to everything Michigan has to offer.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Back in 2019 during a family visit I convinced my husband, Kevin, your other host, to spend the day looking at houses along the lake between South Haven and St. Joseph. He agreed to go with only one caveat: we were not actually going to buy a house in Michigan. I assured him that we were just looking. That was the day we found the Property at 63. We were immediately taken in by the large lush front yard, the long private driveway dripping with spruce trees, the adjacent wooded property with the glimmering wetland pond, the neglected-but-solid limestone house with the bright and beautiful sunporch, and even the weathered beat up old garage/fruit warehouse at the back of the property. There was so much space and so much potential. Much to the delight of my parents, we couldn’t walk away from it. We spent the next three summers working on restoring the house, all while enjoying the picturesque Michigan summers. We spent the long summer days on the beach, on the water, on the trails, and in the towns, but mostly at the Property at 63, windows open to the lake breezes all summer long. After 15 years of suffocating heat in North Carolina, the novelty of open windows in the summer has not worn off.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
We only rent the House at 63 for a handful of weeks over the summer and the off-season. The rest of the time it is full of our family and friends enjoying everything this area has to offer, from the miles of walkable coastline & beautiful beaches, the many wineries, breweries, & distilleries, the trails & nature centers, farm stands & fruit orchards, art galleries & live music venues, festivals, craft & antique fairs, and seemingly endless quaint towns with unique shops, restaurants & of course, famous Michigan fudge. We hope you’ll come and stay here and discover the beauty of the southwest Michigan summers for yourself!
