Charming farmhouse with wood-fired sauna near Owosso, MI
Your peaceful country stay awaits. Ideal for vacations, short-term rental, family gatherings, and artists' and writers' retreats, this stunning rental in Mid-Michigan is a gem. Nestled on 19 acres, the early-1900s-era farmhouse has been renovated with the utmost care to include all of the modern amenities needed to enjoy a relaxing stay in the country. The farmhouse's idyllic setting includes wildflowers and bald eagle sightings; groomed walking paths to an overlook of the beautiful Shiawassee River; a solarium from which to sip coffee while admiring the manicured grounds; a gas grill; 2 ponds for swimming, catch-and-release fishing, and watching wildlife in action; and a Finnish-style sauna expertly designed by one of the owner's sons. The farmhouse features one bedroom that sleeps up to two guests, as well as a sleeping loft that can fit up to 5 additional people. A full kitchen makes cooking meals a breeze, and a large dining table off of the kitchen is the perfect spot around which to congregate for family meals. Additionally, guests have access to an outdoor table and chairs for enjoying meals al fresco. The owners recommend following your evening meals with a short walk to the road for prime sunset viewing.
A semi-circular driveway provides ample parking. Across from the farmhouse, on the other side the driveway, is a converted barn home that is occasionally visited by the owner's family members. A short walk from the farmhouse are two ponds. Next to the swimming pond is a gazebo and a table and chairs for enjoying an afternoon picnic and swim.
Guests of the farmhouse will have the special opportunity to enjoy a variety of nature from the farmhouse and while on walks to the back of the property. Depending on the time of year, one may:
- See a riot of fireflies
- Hear the murmur of chorus frogs
- Witness the many butterflies that visit the prairie flowers
- Spot herons, ducks, geese, red-winged blackbirds, deer, woodchucks, turkeys, frogs and turtles
- Discover beautiful displays of wildflowers
- Stumble upon puffball and morel mushrooms!
Groomed walking trails lead from the farmhouse and ponds, through wooded areas and to the back of the property, which abuts the Shiawassee River. Keep an eye out for river otters, beavers, foxes and bald eagles.
After the sun goes down, venture outside and look up toward the sky for a dazzling display of stars. The property is far enough from the city lights to enjoy the night sky and to occasionally spot the Milky Way.
The property is a 10-minute drive from Owosso, MI, which offers grocery stores, a downtown shopping district, Curwood Castle, Foster Coffee, the Wrought Iron Grill, the Steam Railroading Institute, the Lebowsky Center for the Performing Arts, and the famed Shiawassee Arts Council.
