Escape to the country

Relax by yourself, with friends, have a romantic get away or bring the whole family to this peaceful country spot -limited cellular. Explore Jo Daviess county in the northwest corner of Illinois and surrounding tri-state areas staying in a recently renovated country ranch style house located on a 150 year old working farm in a small valley surround by limestone hills. Perfect get away from the fast pace busy life for those who want to take a quiet break, history buffs, explorers, and making lasting memories with family or friends. Enjoy animals, hiking, fishing, history plus more.

Guests have total privacy access to the farmhouse with large yard. Separate driveway entrance for convenient parking. Self check in upon arrival and self check out upon departure. A host or hosts are always available if you need questions answered.

Guests may walk around the property and look at the animals as long as they do not disturb them. With all unfamiliar animals it’s at the guests own risk. We cannot guarantee how an animal will react to each person. We will be able to inform the guest as to which areas contain the animals at the time of their stay. If guests want to get close and personal it’s best to make arrangements with the animal handlers. Guests need to understand this is a working farm and to be cautious of not only the animals but farm equipment and machines as well. Large tractors do not always see small people or pets. Please DO NOT enter barns or outer buildings for safety reasons.

A four person tent ( no extra charge ) is available for anyone who would want to sleep outside under the stars in the large yard and still have the amenities of home at their disposal. Please bring your own sleeping bags, cots, or outdoor bedding.

In the winter: the rolling hills are wonderful for sleds, cross country skiing, and people learning to ski due to the short hill sizes. Guests must bring their own equipment - none will be provided ( except possibly sleds ). More advance skiing can be participated at chestnut mountain. Note: the slant of the driveway can be tricky to get out onto the road in the winter even through it’s plowed regularly.

In the spring, summer and fall when walking, jogging, hiking, running or exploring around the property there is a swamp, a creek, and ponds to be cautious. NO swimming allowed in these areas due to depths of water and literally stuck in mud. Spotting variety of wildlife while drinking from these areas - perfect for bird watchers. You will see and hear owls, turkeys, eagles, hawks, other birds, ( did I mention bird watching) frogs, crickets, insects, foxes, coyotes, plus more. Please respect their space and the environment - it’s their home. At night you will feel like you can reach up and touch the moon and stars in the sky.. Wonderful places to take photographs, draw, paint, write, and so much more. Gazing at the most spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and the full moon as big as life rising over the hills. The stars bright enough to reach and touch.

We grew up in the farm house on the farm. The farm has been in our family 150 years and seen six generations. Our great great grandparents came here from Wales, worked in Galena at the lead mines to earn and save money which in turn purchased part of the land from the railroad in 1868 and the farm was established in 1872. They raised seven children in a large one room welsh style home. When the children were teenagers they built a bigger two story home up the road. My great grandfather purchased the current farm stead from a neighbor so he could farm with his father.

My grandfather was born on the farm like his father before him and married the girl next door. Part of the farm house ( where the bedrooms are located ) is a Sears Roebuck’s house which came down the road on a big truck in the 1940s and placed on a foundation my grandfather and his father dug. This was my grandparents home until 1970. They raised two boys there and my parents took over the house in 1970. My sister and I grew up there. In 1980 our parents expanded the little house doubling the size we have today.

With our parents passing, my sister and I have different homes. We do not want our beloved childhood home to sit empty. We want it to be enjoyed and cherished by others. We want to share a different unique kind of experience. We grew up surrounded by family, neighbors and friends. The memories we made we would like you to make with your family and friends. Come enjoy serenity, the beauty, and off the grid slower pace lifestyle whether a few days or a lengthy stay. Come at Christmas: cut your own tree, string popcorn, make paper chains, homemade ornaments and lasting memories. Come in the spring and watch baby animals darting here and there throughout the countryside. Come in the summer and enjoy parades, country fairs or the state parks. Explore caves and rock formations most of the year. Come in the fall for pumpkins, bonfires ( in designated areas ) and the beauty of the changing leaves.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

I still enjoy the peace and stillness of the wide open spaces of the rolling meadows surrounded by hills when I visit. Those spectacular sunrises to start your day and the breathtaking sunsets - to capture alone or with others. The expansion of the night sky full of stars to search for constellations on a warm summer nights or wrapped in blankets enjoying a fire pit or bonfire on a chilly evening.

Lovely places to put up a tent and any joy the sounds of nature at night.

The walks through the wooded areas watching the squirrels and butterflies dancing among the trees. Watching for turkeys, hawks, eagles, ground hogs, deer, and other wildlife in the area. This is why I love the area myself. Only you can find your own experiences here.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

You make it unique.

Whether you come alone to find serenity or creativity or with friends you only get together with once in a while or a romantic get away or to create family time memories in a world ruled by busy schedules. This is not for those who want to be on the go all the time or theme parks or water slides. It’s for those who want to find themselves and be with ones they love most in the whole world. Cherished moments you create not entertained. In a moment those you love can be gone and all you have are memories. Which memories will you want to have? A moment watching the sunrise or sunset? A moment of sitting together or playing games without computers laptops work? A moment of a wonderful adventure seeing and experiencing a different way of life?

If you want fast paced entertainment, oceans, big boats, snow capped mountains, etc then you are not looking for our place anyway.

If truly interested, in a thinking out of the box experience, you can inquire about more possible ways to stay whether it’s a few days, weeks, or months. We are happy to make deals to satisfy. A home away from home should be a pleasant time not a costly stressful time.
