6 miles to Custer. 11 acres with a flowing creek and 4 bedroom house backed up to Forest Service with a fire pit and barn, air conditioning and fiber optic WiFi In the summer Ferdinand and Milkshake often graze the pasture. They are Highland and Highland Park steers. The house is situated against Forest Service with miles of hiking and elk habitat. Stockade Lake is within 3 miles and you can use the canoes and body boards from the rental at the Lake. Plenty of public land abounds. In fact, just down the road you can hike along French Creek into Stockade Lake. All public. If you prefer, you can sit by the firepit and relax or sit along the rushing French Creek (it runs through the property) and watch Ferdinand and Milkshake graze. Fishing allowed in the creek. Let the kids entertain themselves running outside, camping in the traditional native sleeping area or playing ping pong, foos ball and arcade games in the garage. Maybe an adult game of poker in the garage space that evening? You will love that you are within minutes of the entrance to Custer State Park. We have created a magical space to create memories. Feels like you are miles from nowhere but, you are within 6 miles of Custer city.

Family getaway

We loved the location, peace and quiet. House was perfect size for our family. Close to Custer state park, bear country and reptile gardens.

Beautiful location with good view of stars and wildlife. Great proximity to all the sights, fishing & hiking. We had a group of 8 and had everything we needed. Our host was very responsive. Loved it and wouldn't think twice about staying again!

Beautiful property with lots of space and amenities. Close to lots of tourist attractions but also secluded to feel at home! Cows were fun roomies outside. The whole family loved it!

Our stay was wonderful! There was more than enough room for 6 adults. The kitchen was fully stocked with appliances and tools. It was so quiet and peaceful. This was one of the cleanest Vrbos I've stayed in. I hope I can come back!

We absolutely loved our stay! The property is breathtaking and location was perfect for Custer/Mt Rushmore. Communication with Joy was perfect, check-in was a breeze, the listing photos were true to the house. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, plenty of space for our family of 10 (7 adults, 3 kids). The kids loved the game room for downtime. We all loved waking up and sitting out on the deck, watching Ferdinand and Milkshake.

Perfect for Families and Friends

House was clean, and well designed for families to share time together. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen was large enough to cook for family of eight. Blackstone grill on deck was clean and easy to use. The fire pit was a big hit with the kids. We ate s'mores even when it was raining! We were supplied with enough paper towels and toilet paper for our week. The livestock and wildlife on the property provided constant entertainment. The stream was just fast moving enough to be a little thrilling, but safe to play in! Location was great because it is close to the town of Custer, and remote enough for kids to run and play without bothering neighbors! I would highly recommend this property for families and friends that want to explore Mount Rushmore and the surrounding area

Beautiful area and wonderful stay

We took our kids here on a family vacation and we all loved it. The house was it great shape and had so many activities to keep the kids entertained. They were ages 9-13, and never got bored. They explored the creek, went hiking in the Black Hills National Forest right out the back door, and played many of the games the host provided. The highlight for our daughter (and also the boys) was getting to see Penelope and Ferdinand. The house is very close to so many outdoor attractions like Stockade Lake, Bismarck Lake, and Custer State Park. We always had many choices on outdoor activities. The house had everything we needed, as well as a great stock of coffee. Several mornings I took some coffee outside to watch the peaceful morning while the kids slept in a bit. Thank you for making our vacation perfect and memorable!

Thank you for your review. I have tried to create a memorable space with the things I enjoy when I travel. My son is 17 and loves fishing in the creek for trout and catching crawdads. Penelope and Ferdinand enjoy the attention for sure. I personally sit on my porch (which is just down the road), drink my coffee and think of how blessed I am to live where I do. Thank you, Joy
