The Little Gem! Cozy and Private Waterfront Cabin
Welcome to North Idaho and our lovely waterfront cabin on Lake Cocolalla! Perfectly situated, our accommodation offers guests the best of all of the seasons and many opportunities for peace, or adventure. This fully updated, and charmingly authentic cabin will allow you to step back in time, while still being comfortable with modern amenities. The lake is great for water activities and is perfect for those with angling aspirations. You will have an incredible time staying in or going out!
The space
Helpful information about our cabin:
As you turn down the shared driveway, our property is along the right hand side. The turn out at the top is for our Winter parking when there is snow on the ground, as the down hill portion of the driveway could prove difficult in snowy/icy conditions even for 4x4 vehicles. For all other seasons, you will turn down hill to the right to go to our cabin and you'll find a parking area for up to 3 cars at the bottom. The main cabin and bunkhouse bedroom are just steps away. We do have a Ring doorbell which helps keep an eye out on safety. You will be messaged a unique code for your stay before arriving, allowing access to the cabin.
Upon entering, you will step back in time to a simpler era. The cedar lined walls and ceilings capture the charming period in which the cabin was built. Drop your things on the bench just inside the door, hang your coat on the nostalgic coat rack and orient yourself to the cabin. You'll see a welcome binder on the table by the couch which will serve as house manual for you with a range of tabs going over everything from linens to checkout, entertainment to restaurant recommendations. This is a good place to start, as there is a lot of information to convey!
Special Notes:
-This is a waterfront cabin, children must be monitored at all times.
-The 2nd bedroom is a separate structure 40 feet from the main cabin. There is no bathroom in this structure.
-The running water is pumped directly out of the lake and is perfect for washing/bathing, but not drinking. There is a water cooler/heater for drinking water in the house and bunkhouse.
The Main Cabin Bedroom:
It is on the "view" side of the property and, uniquely, has windows from the living room through the space to the view as you can see in the pictures. Privacy is created through closing the "black-out" draperies and blinds. This room also has a desk for those who have a bit of work, a sitting area for enjoying coffee and tea and allows for deck access through the sliding door. The bed is a queen size, with reading lights and USB outlets on the nightstands. Keep your clothes in the antique wardrobe and enjoy this peaceful space.
The Bunkhouse Bedroom:
The second bedroom is a bunkhouse located about 40 feet from the main cabin as you can see in the pictures. This room has a triple bunkbed: twin (upper), full (main) and twin (trundle). The room is heated through an electric fireplace that can be controlled by remote. There is a little water cooler there too for a last sip of water, but there is no plumbing in the bunkhouse. This building is a historic structure from the retired Naval Base at Farragut State Park.
Lake Access :
Head down to the lake on the old concrete stair path. It's around 50 feet away and provides additional seclusion. There is a sandy beach and is a great space to play, read a book or just relax. In the winter, Jan-March, the entire lake freezes over, allowing for great Ice fishing, skating and other activities. This is a seasonal activity that is weather dependent and is up to you to gauge safety. As such, our dock is removable. We try to have it built and assembled June-September but that is weather/water dependent. The dock is great for fishing and getting out on the water. Kids need to be supervised at all times. Please bring personal life-jackets and floaties for your use. Any items for floatation at the cabin were left by other guests and are your responsibility to gauge for personal/family safety. Use at your own risk. There are chairs down at the lake for you to use. Feel free to explore our 200 or so feet of beach front.
Special notes for Winter use:
There will almost certainly be snow on the ground and snow in the forecast.
-A special parking area is on the top of the property and is clearly identified. **Please don't attempt to drive down the driveway to the bottom unless communicated it is safe to do so and your vehicle is 4x4.
-We will provide a transport "sled" to tote your things down to the cabin (150 feet away)
-The front patio space and the rear deck hold most of the snow from the roof. These areas are not usable during winter months, unless communicated differently.
-If the lake is frozen, it is up to you to determine if it is safe for use. As previously mentioned children need to be supervised at all times.
Guest access
Guests have full access to the cabin, the bunkhouse, parking areas and outdoor areas of the property. Areas with no access are: the storage shed near the main cabin, under the deck storage for owner items, and the pump-house near the lake. Property lines go right down to the water, so please stay on our portion of the waterfront. Thanks!
Other things to note
Neighbors:
We love our neighbors, like you, this is a place of refuge and seclusion for them too. Please be considerate of their property, things and respect the "Quiet hours" that we have set from 10pm-8am. If there are any neighbor issues, please let us know immediately.
Background noise:
The cabin is in a beautiful spot and is a pretty view looking towards the East. The two lane highway 95 is on the opposite shore along with two railway lines. You will certainly hear some traffic as well as trains moving along. Most guests enjoy the scene and understand that this is part of the background noise of the cabin.
