Wonderful property. We felt like we were in the middle of a tropical forest but with modern conveniences and comfort. Loved the connection to the surrounding trees, vegetation, and singing birds. Wrap around porch is where we spent all our time while at the property. Magical views including the ocean. Def recommend!!

The whole experience was awesome. Some major points:1. The view is awesome. House is on 3 acres and you have a view of the ocean. You can watch cruise ships go by. No other neighbors to contend with. Peaceful. Sound of a running stream. Lots of Hawaiian forest surrounds the other sides.2. The house is exceptional. Two 360 degree decks that surround the house (upper and lower). Great shade and a constant breeze of clean air. Many outdoor chairs and lounges to recline on. Wonderful place to read a book. I did not watch TV for 2 weeks (but there is one).3. Upstairs is a large living room and a well equipped kitchen. Lots of windows to open and let the breeze come in. The house is about 1500 feet above sea level so the temperature is almost always perfect - probably about 6-8 degrees cooler than Hilo.. There is also 1 bedroom and a bath.4. On the occasional clear night the sky is magnificent. No nearby lights to detract from it.5. Downstairs the 2 bedrooms and 2 baths are large and comfortable. Again, lots of windows to let the breeze in.6. I want to live here. Planning on coming back.

Amazing views, lovely decks to watch the rainbows over the water. Lots of room, comfortable temperatures with fans and everything you need for cooking. I loved seeing the geckos and listening to the birds.

This place was really beautiful! Had some issues with the electricity/water (no ones fault, just bad luck), but our host and the handyman for the property were very accommodating and tried everything they could to help us enjoy our stay!

This place is beautiful. I spent almost the entire time outside on the deck. It down poured one day, what a delight to sit there on the deck and listen to the rain in the warm weather. It always cooled off when opening the windows so we were never hot. I enjoyed making meals and just sitting on the deck, enjoying incredible view. There was a cute little stand just down the road where we bought the best sourdough bread. They had tons of cute little gifts you could purchase as well. Close to Hilo we checked out the cow cuddling just outside of Hilo for 20 per person, my son loved it one of his favorite things we did. The beds were comfortable. My kids were a little frustrated at night when the TV had spotty reception, but not a dealbreaker for us as we did not come there to watch TV. The frogs provide provided a symphony at night, wonderful to listen to did not cause an issue for sleeping. It was pitch black at night saw none of the neighbors lights felt like we were in our own little world. Communication was great highly recommend this place for anybody that wants a little remote hideaway. The wood and deck of the house is amazing. we would love to return to this place it was very comfortable.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed coming back to this home each night after exploring the island. The location private and great for walking to Akaka Falls and the little fruit stand. The house felt spacious and comfortable. It was clear the house was built with care as my husband commented on how well done the construction appeared. We had everything we needed in terms of kitchen items, soap supplies, laundry facilities, etc. We had a couple geckos that would come and go upstairs once in a while, but they were comical to watch. It was a great location to explore both North and South ends of the island for day trips. Hilo was an easy drive away for supplies and Honumu offered a couple close by shops including The Hive where we got delicious sandwiches. Overall I would recommend this property and stay here again.

The property was exceptionally clean and well maintained throughout. The check in instructions were clear and concise, making the entire process seamless. A true rainforrest experience

We much enjoyed the views and our family dinners from the wrap around deck. The house has a middle of the rainforrest feel, yet is resonablt close to Hilo and various west coast activities with 2 outfitters aprox 2 miles away. We will missthe rainforrest sounds!

Amazing location!

Although our schedule only allowed us to stay for one night, I wish we were able to stay longer! The views from both floors of the property was amazing. There was a private waterfall on the property and the hike to it was so cool! I loved stargazing at night - I've never seen the sky so dark - we could even see the entire Milky Way! And sleeping at night to the sounds of the nature made it feel like we were in the middle of a jungle. The house was a great set-up with the wrap-around deck. Well stocked and had everything we needed. 10/10 would highly recommend.

Beautiful, unique house in serene nature!!

The house is amazing! It is tastefully furnished, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is very well equipped. The absolute highlight is the porch, where we were waving breakfast and dinner and gather in the lounge chairs, even when it was raining. The sounds of the rainforests, the frogs and birds are exotic and fascinating! This was one of the most extraordinary places we ever rented and we would recommend it to everyone who wants to indulge in Hawaian atmosphere and landscape. Chris is a very helpful host, easy to reach, flexible and supportive.

House was very unique and fun with the wrap around second level porch/lanai. House was clean, each of the three rooms had its own full bathroom w/ shower. Beds were large. View was amazing and you can hear the waterfall on the property. Check in/out was easy, good communication with the host. The description did not clearly state that the only stairway between the levels was outdoor therefore requires you to unlock the door by keypad when going from one level to the other. This was not a big issue, but was a bit of a surprise. With kids, it was more difficult to enjoy the second level living area while they were in bed. The drive up to the house may require 4-wheel drive because it is steep and was raining during our stay. Was no issue for the rental Jeep Wrangler, but may be for a FWD car. The fruit stand on the way in was great and the coffee and shave ice place in the small town was amazing (check their hours). And the 'Akaka Falls are a short drive away and worth the visit.

I'm sorry you were surprised by our staircase, we have provided photos of every area of the house to be as transparent with guests as possible. And I completely understand your concern about the slope of the driveway (Believe me, we're from Houston, there's barely any hills), however, we've never had any issues with it before and recently had redone excavation and concrete work on it. Treetop Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay in Honomu. The home is comfortable and well appointed. Sitting on the second floor balcony and enjoying the forest scenery as well as the ocean in the distance was a highlight. The cool air was refreshing and kept the home a comfortable temperature. We appreciated having laundry facilities available and used the kitchen daily. The day geckos were fun to watch scurrying around. At night, the coqui frogs were quite vocal. If the windows are open, one may want to use ear plugs. The sound only bothered one of the four in our group, and the rest thought it was delightful. We used the location as a home base to visit Hilo, nearby waterfalls, beaches, and the local zoo. The Hamakua Toffee shop is not to be missed. While the home is a bit off of the beaten track, that is a big part of its charm. It was a relaxing place to get away.

Amazing property with great views. We loved sitting on the 2nd floor deck and listening to the birds. We had been given an AWD suv with poor tread on the front tires and it was not able to make it up the driveway. The driveway has a pretty good slope and a significant amount of moss on the ground. The day we arrived our car hit the moss and the tires started spinning. Again, I'm not saying this was all due to the driveway. Long story short, the car was stuck on the driveway and the rental company came and switched out the car with a car with good tires and 4x4. We had not issues after that. If we come back to the island we would definitely stay here again but would make sure to have 4x4 just for our own comfort.
