A stellar 4th of July!

Our family celebrated July 4th in the heart of the nation's capital!! It was a breeze to metro into DC from the Vienna station, and for those of us who stayed behind (for a more intimate Independence Day bbq), all the fireworks could be heard right from the back deck! The grill worked great, no charcoal, no mess. The tiki-torches+cedar fires, heated pool, and beautiful views really made the occasion special!! We are going to bring the whole family again next summer B-)

Not what was advertised

This was not worth what we paid. The amenities listed a pool table there was not one. The movie room did not look like the pictures and the big screen movie TV had pixel spots all the time.Was not great for watching. The largest dining area was not air conditioned it was to hot to use. Part of the carpet was taped down in the main den. The bedroom my wife and I was in the tv did not work. I have pictures to back up all of these comments and more.This was NOT worth what we paid. i think i deserve a portion of my fee returned. i have pictures to back up my claims. the property was not how it was dipicted on the website,

John: We're disappointed that you feel this way and wrote this negative review. We question your motive as we have been in touch with your party EVERY DAY of the rental period and not once were any of your "ISSUES" raised. I'll respond to your issues: 1) Pool Table is a multi-game foosball, billiards, card table. 2) Orange Safety Tape is on the carpet intentionally to warn of a step near the door and prevent accidents. 3) House is equipped with ELEVEN, yes ELEVEN functional cable-equipped TVs. We also have on-site spare TVs so if you notified us of a problem during your stay, the TV would have been changed out in 30 minutes or less. 4) The four Theatre Seats in Basement were reduced to TWO, but a NEW, EXTRA Large sleeper sofa and four bar stools were brought in to augment the suite. 50 The Indoor/outdoor SUMMER KITCHEN was never advertised as interior space; however, we have multiple auxilliary HVAC Units on-site so we could have easily accommodated your request if you flagged it to us during your stay. Againg. were disappointed in your review and still question why these issues weren't raised to us, when our staff was on site daily to service the pool and spa. We also woner why you left the spa running and half of the water displaced, potentially ruining the pumps? Also, we accommodated your request to heat the swimming pool additionally for your night swims, even though it was 85 degrees. We agree this isn't quite the property depict - it is far better as it has new expanded tennis court, re-tiled swimming pool, and the expansive summer kitchen. The 12000 BTU on-site air conditioner could have been delivered if you only requested it, We wish you the best on your future HomeAway visits and only request that you communicate with your hosts more openly during your stay. eclectic, easy going Vibe, great backyard!

Richard, I found this house to perfectly suit our 2nd annual Family Reunion-- What makes this house unique--is the laid back vibe of the house, the ability to have over 45 people there for our family reunion, and with the basketball courts, the pool and the loft it never felt crowded. It is one of the few houses guests felt that smoking outside was okay, as there were ashtrays, and there was more than enough parking. I literally saw three deer while we were there, and your quick response time was something I highly appreciated, as well as your pool concierge helping us almost every day with some thing or another, she is awesome. Your house is a different house from most home away houses, it is more relaxed, it is eclectic, it has a 60’s vibe; and most definitely it is meant for large groups, it has many different areas for people to hang out—and I felt completely safe with the younger kids running all over the property alone. There was even the ability to have Music at the pool! Now when we visit Virginia we will be hard pressed to find a home with a backyard and easy vibe; like yours, and the memories we have there will last a life time. I thank you for allowing us to rent your home, I hope you found it in good condition with all linens and towels washed and beds stripped, to make for an easier transition. Even though in true relaxed style there were few rules and we could have just picked up our clothes and left, I thank you so much for our memories and our fun time! Lia: Thank you for the kind words. We've had terrific response from our guests this year. The estate was a Parade of Homes winner when it was built, the current furnishings reflect a mix of Contemporary, Modern, and Old World Classic. We have some 60's décor in the recreational room, such as Jukebox, vintage RC Cola Machine, Popcorn Machine, and Vintage Beer lights. ********************************************************* Just to clarify, although the house sits on 5 fenced-in, secluded acres near the Nations Capital Beltway, we only rent this home for 12-14 people max. Private parties with larger groups are strictly prohibited unless arranged with advance notification and contracted & priced separately. In the case of a private outdoor party being booked, the house would be closed off during these daytime events. We would also assign on on-site manager for these events. We will also arrange, for a fee, port-o-lets, party tents, catering, parking, etc. for the large groups for a one or two day outdoor event. Again, due to noise, sewer, and water capacity restrictions, large events must be declared up front and written into the contract, including guest lists, rules, capacity, etc. ******************************************************************************** Ultimately, this is a perfect reunion house for 8-12 people who wish to enjoy their special time together as well as the property's beauty as well as its facilities, including Sport Court (tm), tennis, bocce ball, horseshoes, volleyball, full court basketball, paddle tennis, swimming, Jacuzzi, badminton, outdoor fireplaces, and music.

What a great Washington DC vacation

I have been a VRBO participant for about 6 years, and have had travelled all over the world, having the pleasure of staying at some great properties. However, I have not stayed at anything like this place - it was the "complete package" that made our family reunion special. The biggest complaint we heard from our friends is they spent too much time in DC away from this spectacular property and wish they could stay longer...! The 5 acre outdoor space was incredible - we had gatherings around the outdoor fireplace in the French country courtyard. This place has all of the modern amenities but you just felt like you were at home back in Europe. The incredible attention to detail, the beautiful furnishings, nice décor, and comfortable beds are only a few of the things that we enjoyed. Family heirlooms and treasures tastefully gave the rooms a sense of warmth and love. The five bedrooms are large and luxurious, each with a flat screen TV; there are I-pod ready music systems throughout the property that really set the tone of our gathering - we played all types of music, indoors & out.. The sport court hosted many games of basketball and volleyball - what a blast! The Master Suite is gorgeous and the second suite has 2 queen beds and a private balcony. The downstairs Game Room with a Table Tennis, Jukebox, and 73" surround sound TV became a constant hang out for the kids while the adults stayed in the beautiful sunroom with gas fireplace and summer kitchen. It was recently renovated but still carries that old world charm. The spa was an added treat that only added to the comfort of this beautiful estate and allowed for even more family time. The owners supplied plenty of towels and linens. My family and I stayed in this home over our summer holiday, and the absolute greatest pleasure for me was being in a gorgeous kitchen that new & modern, and filled with absolutely everything we needed to cook with. We didn't have to bring anything other than our food. We had a wonderful family holiday, and I am so grateful to the owners of this home. They are just marvelous people, and were so kind and accommodating. I also must add that this home was immaculate. The outdoor spaces combined this the modern old world charm of this home is what really made it special. It is a very special place, and you will see and feel this as soon as you enter the home. Believe me, my family will be back in this home again and often.

Great retreat for a large group!

Everything about this property is spot on based on the listing. There was tons space so no one felt like they were on top of each other. We were able to use the hot tub with no problems and it was amazing. Great great Host who was attentive and communicated throughout The Visit. I would recommend this property to any and everyone visiting the DC area that does not want to deal with the hustle and bustle of DC traffic. A short commute to the national mall

Nice property, excellent accommodations, close to DC, skiing, everything!

Our three generations enjoyed everything about our stay. We toured the area, DC, and skied at Whitetail where our young grandchildren learned to ski. They were skiing blues in the beautiful snow the second day. A wonderful and memorable experience. Thank you VRBO!

Family Fun

This house is not the Ritz Carlton, it is a house that has been lived in, so if you want the Ritz go stay there. If you want an absolutely fantastic house for your family to enjoy the DC area, you can’t beat this place. Great decks, great pool, sport court, has everything you need to have fun. Sun room with ice maker, great for bar set-up. Bedrooms are all comfortable. TVs everywhere but we never used them. We were poolside or on the decks. Easy in & out of DC and wine country. Rick was instantly accessible & totally awesome. We have zero complaints.

Perfect for our large extended family

So we gathered from literally all over the world: Germany, Japan, England and Scotland - and North and South Carolina, too - this house was perfect - really suited our needs - enough room to spread out - all 14 of us - and have enough privacy if need be - grandchildren loved the pool and hot tub - and Rick and Sherry were very accommodating - had a nice juicy watermelon waiting for us - one of our family members left a watch behind - and the Taylor’s were awesome in finding it and mailing it to us -

Great summer getaway!

We rented this property for a reunion with friends in the DC area this past summer. It was really close to the metro (about a 5 minute drive), so we were able to see all the attractions in DC very easily. We found ourselves not wanting to leave the house though because of all the great things there: pool, hot tub, basketball court, game room, you name it! My friends and I loved grilling on the deck and enjoying the beautiful weather and views. The kitchen in this house is huge, so if you love to cook this place is perfect for you. Also the bedrooms had new tv's and REALLY comfy beds. I highly recommend this property, we are trying to have a reunion here every summer!
