Great vacation experience! Spent a lot of time at Garnet lake which is 2 minutes away. Found out you can put motor boats in the lake. No dock however. Would not put in a large boat. We saw 2 bear cubs playing in the back yard. My family had a great time!
I am considering renting your home in July 2014. My daughter is allergic to animals and I noticed a dog in one of your pictures. Do you allow pets into your home?
We were a party of 8 adults, and ALL of us thought this was the best home we ever rented (and we have been renting homes for over 20 years). The place was stunning...you knew you were in the Adirondacks. We didn't see any other people on the property, just deer and other wildlife. I can't find the right words to describe the utter feeling of peace and calm while staying in this home...and never having to wait for the bathroom was a bonus! The wood stove added the right ambiance to the house...thanks for the firewood! I am so sorry we were only there for the weekend...we felt like we wanted to stay forever. Marilyn, thank you for opening up your home, it was a pleasure. Like the previous review, you had to drive to get to places, but being from NYC, driving on those country roads is a real treat and piece of cake...no traffic! Trust me when I tell you that you will not be sorry if you rent this home.
We booked this cabin because the pictures were awesome, but they do not do the cabin justice. The place is HUGE and beautifully decorated and appointed. My kids spent a few hours just running around the cabin marveling at the log structure, the extensive Adirondack decor and the taxidermy collection (not at all creepy as some can be). The property manager was such a nice guy, he not only patiently provided directions to near-by trails, lakes and swimming holes, but offered to lead me to the nearest gas station when I noted I was down to less than 1/4 tank. My kids hiked the woods, spotting deer and a beaver in the pond just behind the cabin! I enjoyed my coffee on the back decks watching the steam rise lazily from the pond each morning. We kayaked at Garnet Lake (not quite 2 miles away) and hiked Crane Mt (the views of which dominate the area). We LOVED it. Each night we made dinner in the large kitchen (very well equipped) and then made a bon fire in the fire pit. We enjoyed total privacy and the peace and quiet of the camp.
The cabin is enormous and can easily handle a large group. My kids loved the bunkhouse but given the amount of extra space, soon decided to take their own rooms, each one nicely appointed and comfortable.
The location is great, its a good 15 mins to a convenience store, but we had no issue day tripping to Loon Lake, Lake George or Lake Luzerne and when we wanted to just hang out - we had that awesome and tranquil deck that worked out great. We thought it was close enough to all the things we wanted, but far enough away that we had peace and quiet and no interruptions. (cell phone service was available at the top of the yard - but we seldom needed the phone because the camp has its own wifi)
I can't say enough good things about our experience, we completely enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to return
Beautiful house but not as private as advertised.
The "private" road is indeed privately owned, just not by this owner, but by the Association that has several properties on the road.
Okay, no big deal.
But in correspondence with owner, I asked to clarify about neighbors, as we were looking for private, large plot of land (which this seemed to be)
Was told there were "no neighbors visible" and property was 8 acres.
In fact, once we got here, we were told that there was "shared access" to the pond in the back, which means that there are neighbors who are in the backyard of the property, quite visible to me (and striking up conversations) on their way to the pond in the back.
This is not what I would expect for "8 acres" and "no visible neighbors": to have people traipsing through the yard not fifty feet from the house.
And when people use the pond, or picnic there, they are quite visible (and can see you quite clearly) on your back porch, and you can all hear each others conversations.
This is not secluded, or private.
Yesterday a woman indicated that her large party (several adults all with children) were going to be spending much time at the pond, i.e. in our backyard for the rest of our stay (next week).
A truly beautiful house and property, but if you are looking for "secluded" this most certainly is not as advertised.
If you are looking for a sanctuary of peace and privacy, this is it! Driving down the road to reach Camp Ankabos, then rounding the bend into view of the cabin, you know you have selected the perfect vacation get-away. For us, it was an early evening arrival and the caretaker, Dick, had thoughtfully left the lights on to welcome us. Upon opening the big red door, we immediately felt the comfortableness of a "home away from home" and marveled at the purist Adirondack decor Marilyn has so wonderfully decorated with. The furniture, rugs, art, antiques, staircase and taxidermy are true Adirondack-style. The kitchen is a chef's dream with a commercial 6-burner gas stove and sink. My husband was in awe of the cabin's construction - really impressive! The wrap-around porch with Adirondack railing was a delight to sit on, especially during the morning calm with our tea/coffee and serene nature. Often, my husband would work from his computer there or from the MBR balcony. Some mornings were chilly outside, but the warm wood floors with radiant heat underneath kept things cozy - I loved walking on them in my bare feet! The beds and down pillows were comfortable, with down comforters if the evening got cool. Our kids and dogs loved playing at the pond below the cabin and we enjoyed cooking over the campfire in the evening. Hiking around the woods by the cabin was great fun for our family. For the more adventurous hikers, there's a convenient trail to Crane Mountain lake and summit. Nearby, there is The Black Mountain Restaurant, that also has an authentic Adirondack feel to the interior and delicious food. At the base of Rts. 28 & 8 (turn to the right) is a very reasonable outfitter who we rented a canoe and kayak from. Also, the quaint town of North Creek is a treat to visit with great little shops, restaurants, grocery store, and an interesting, historical train station. Don't miss the Adirondack Museum or The Wild Center when you visit. Our family had one of the best vacations here. We plan to return when we can and include more people. Marilyn, thank you for allowing others the privilege of sharing your cabin. It is an Adirondack gem!

Die Gegend um das Gore Mountain Ski Resort ist eine klassische Adirondack Land. Gore Mountain liegt 15 Fahrminuten entfernt.
