This cozy house was the perfect home-base to explore Iceland for our week of travels. The house itself is very spacious, clean, and well appointed, with beautiful furnishings, and comfy beds. Kristen was extremely helpful and welcoming, and upon our arrival, sat down with us and went through various maps to help us plan our travels for the week. She was also kind enough to leave fresh baking from the local bakery. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, including walking along the beach, which was right across the street. The village of Stokkseyri itself is a pleasantly quiet and quaint little village, which can easily be explored on foot. Selfoss is only a short 10 minute drive away, which makes getting groceries an easy adventure, with the house being well-equipped to prepare and cook meals as well. This house is the perfect spot for those who are looking to get off the beaten path, and we highly recommend this lovely home to those visiting Iceland.
P.S. The liquor store (Vinbudin) closes at 6, and is completely closed on Sundays! We found that one out the hard way!
I can't say enough about this lovey home and especially our host, Kristen. With her assistance, we were able to plan the perfect trip to Iceland for our family. The home was beautiful, clean and in the perfect location for exploring and day trips. She thought of everything and went the extra mile to make our 7 year old daughter feel at home too. Thank you so much for helping us to have the vacation of a lifetime! Cheers!
Our family (2 Adults and 3 Teenagers) had a lovely 8 day stay at the house. We were warmly welcomed by Frida, including a lovely cake and bread, and provided with an abundance of details, including maps, guides and suggestions, on what to do in Iceland.
We enjoyed hiking, waterfalls, glaciers, volcanos, horse riding, bathing in numerous hot pools, the ferry to the Westman Islands and the walk up Edfell, and our visit to Reykjavik.
The house and its location is precisely as described in the owner's details.
Our family of four, with two teens, spent four wonderful nights at this property. The home is situated in a quiet town away from the tour buses and summer crowds. The location is perfect for exploring the southern part of Iceland. The major attractions of the Golden Circle, Vik, and Reykjavik are all just about an hour away so you can use this home as a great base of operations. The grocery store is only a 15 min drive so cooking at home was easy.
When we arrived, we were met by Kristin's sister and brother-in-law. They were both so very nice and went out of their way to give us an overview of the property and give us suggestions about things to do for day trips. They even helped us with logistics as we wanted to attend a local football match in Reykjavik one night. The home also has several binders of information and maps to help you plan the perfect stay.
The property itself was excellent. It was spacious and clean and we felt that the pictures on the website accurately reflect the property. The kitchen had everything we needed and even had some staples like coffee, sugar, spices, etc. that we could use. We usually cooked dinners on the grill with the beautiful views of the ocean and volcanoes in the distance.
Our family has fond memories of our time here and we highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Iceland.
We have just returned to the US after an incredible week of touring the South and Southeast of Iceland. This cottage is lovely and has everything you could possibly need. Frida, the owner's mother, greeted us on arrival and had the pantry and fridge stocked with staples and a lovely tray of cake and breads for us. Not only that, but she spent time reviewing maps and familiarizing us with the local area and beyond. There are maps, books, and all of the comforts you would need to make your stay pleasant. The location is just perfect! A quick walk across the street to the beautiful black sand beach on the Atlantic, a lovely trail to run/walk or bike on, tons of wildlife within walking distance - horses, birds, sheep, a lagoon to kayak on, the local pool, & the best lobster restaurant a short walk away! The entire area is charming and scenic. A short drive to the grocery store and restaurants in nearby Selfoss - which we drove through to get to many of our destinations during the trip. The town is a great starting point to so many wonderful places and made day trips easy. A scenic hour drive from the airport and short 45 mins into the city. Kristin communicates all necessary information and helpful tips to make the most out of your time. She even provides binders of each area that are well stocked with attractions, brochures, and directions. We slept well in our comfy bed, had great views out the windows, & had not a care in the world during our stay. The long days allowed us to leave early after fabulous coffee and go all day - 12-13 hours at times, and return to the comforts of home. Could not ask for a better experience. We cannot wait to return and bring our children to see the beauty of Iceland. We were truly amazed by the landscape, the people, and the scenery...it is beyond your expectations. The kindest and friendliest people everywhere! Thank you Kristin and Frida for being so hospitable and for sharing your lovely home with us!
Very comfortable and well stocked house (coffee, breakfast cereal, milk, starter pack of Skyr (yogurt), laundry and bathroom supplies, and more!). Lots of maps, books, and travel info in house. Kristen and Frida provide a wealth of local knowledge and recommendations. House is across street from Atlantic Ocean and is within driving distance to sights, city, horse riding, etc. Iceland roads are easy to navigate, uncrowded and safe. People are very helpful and speak English.
Highly recommend Kalfholt stable for riding Icelandic horses which are smooth tolting and fun! Also Fontana Spa for hot tubbing and dinner buffet on way back from Golden Circle sights.
Email Kristin for directions since vrbo map got us to town but not precisely to house.
