Lakeside Hideaway: Full-Home Retreat on the Remote Boney Falls Basin

Regarding the gunfire you heard upon arrival: it was likely due to bird hunting season in the U.P., which can bring occasional gunfire in remote areas. Many locals also sight in their rifles ahead of deer season. Typically, Boney Falls is peaceful and quiet, and when we opened it as a vacation rental, our neighbors across the road let us know they only host a band party on the last weekend of August. This year, they held it a week early, and we appreciate you bringing that to our attention. We'll be sure to confirm future dates with them so we can inform guests in advance. We were unaware of the disturbance during your stay, and had we known, we would have gladly offered compensation. As soon as we read your review, we checked in with our current guests about the water temperature, and they reported no issues. Still, we lowered the water heater setting during the next guest transition to ensure comfort. The power outage you experienced was due to a blown transformer that affected the entire area—unfortunately beyond our control. We were happy to bring candles and water to help ease the inconvenience. As for launching kayaks into the basin, we understand it can be challenging due to the steep, rocky terrain. Since the basin is owned by the power company, we’re unable to modify the access. However, starting next season, we’ll have a trailer available to help guests transport kayaks and canoes to the public launch just a mile down the road.
