Thinking about a Bahamas trip but don't know where to start? I can help you with advice on airfare, transportation and of course lodging at my condo for a memorable, safe and relaxing trip. There is no language barrier, money exchange rates, and you are safer in the Bahamas than you are in the US. I have been coming to the Bahamas since 1999, and many times before Coral Beach was my vacation stay of choice. I stayed at hotel resorts and more expensive condos but I always gravitated back to Coral Beach. These Condos have stood the test of time, hurricanes and all! This condo has been around since the 1960's and the lush tropical grounds have fully matured with beautiful plants, huge palm trees, and one of the prettiest private beaches you will ever see. If you watch the streaming show "Bahamas Life '' on HGTV Season 3 Episode 13 called "No more socks" you see a couple look at three condos on Grand Bahamas and see and hear why they chose to purchase at Coral Beach Condos. The location is perfect to get to Lucaya, Smith's Point fish fry, Taino beach and downtown Freeport if you need anything from the hardware store or drugstore. Best of all there is a newly remodeled restaurant and Bar La Roq on site that gives you excellent drinking and dining options without leaving the grounds! So you can go to the beach, grab a cabana and set up your beach chairs, and if your cooler runs out you can walk 20 feet to the bar and get a Sands beer or Bahama Mama! The restrooms are convenient as well so you don't have to go back to your condo just to get relief.
A 20 minute stroll down the beach (or a 4 minute taxi ride) gets you to The port at Lucaya. This is where you can find the straw market, shopping, and an abundance of international cuisine and world class dining. There are over 21 bar/restaurants in this one area. Some of my favorites are Zorba's Greek Cuisine (amazing coffee and pastries) , Rum Runners (great bar with a commanding view of Count Basie Square), and if you want a real Bahamian experience go to Daddy Brown's Conch Stand and order the big girl special. It is food that you can eat right there on the square. There are multiple convenience stores, liquor stores, drug stores, jewelry and just about anything you could want or need.
As for our unit at 3215 we waited many years for the that location to open up for sale. We love being on the second floor, and building three is the closest building to the beach. We only use the elevator when we arrive with luggage or if we have a really big grocery load. Otherwise we just use the one flight of stairs by the front entrance and we are right by the back staircase that leads to the pool and beachfront. Our unit is as close to the beach as it gets, and that was our primary goal. Many units will show the beachfront in their ads about there are a very long walk and with no view of anything but a parking lot from their patio.
Our condo has been taken down to the studs and been rebuilt to modern standards with new kitchen cabinets, granite counters, beautiful tile flooring and ALL NEW appliances and furniture. In our unit you will not find popcorn ceilings, no avocado green or sky blue bathtub/showers, no rusty appliances, no smelly 1970 or 80’s furniture. All light fixtures, pots and pans, glasses and dishes are new. The brand new mini split air conditioner can keep you cool at all times even on the hottest Bahamian summer days. Even the stainless fridge is brand new. The internet is fast so you can stay in touch with work but only if you want to.
The condo amenities include full time security, front desk help from 9 to 5, an amazing pool that is always kept clean, meticulous grounds keeping, shuffleboard and pickle ball courts. There is a large outdoor Bar B Q area and there are often group dinners you might find yourself invited to. The gate out to the beach is secure . The little wooden cabanas are first come first serve, but the crowds are never large in this area. We have 2 great beach chairs that you can backpack down and we have quite a few beach towels to start each season so you don’t have to pack them. We also provide snorkel gear that is more than adequate for the needs of most amateurs, and I have some info in the unit telling you where you can walk from the condo and snorkel that is as good as any $180 snorkeling excursion you pay elsewhere. For free! The central location means a taxi ride from here to just about anywhere will be very affordable, You can walk to Lucaya and there is a public bus that is adequate (sometimes crowded) . I suggest you be adventurous and rent a car. Yes, they drive on the other side of the road compared to America or Canada, but it is a quick adjustment period.
I also provide a guide book that will help you find the local spots to eat, drink, buy fresh fish, and shop for groceries at the lowest price. I can get you contact numbers of locals that will help you with any emergency that might God forbid might arise. Better safe than sorry! I also have many great locations for private beaches, blue holes and snorkel without a boat. I also tell you who to call for fishing charters and day trips without getting into the tourist traps they use on the cruise ship crowd. One of the great things about Grand Bahama is the hundreds of little beachside takeout food shacks. This condo is very close to many of the best, and I have compiled a list of can’t miss places to eat. This is a great experience to meet local Bahamians and experience their graciousness and friendly behavior that you won’t forget.
But the best part is you don’t have to leave the premises to have a full day of vacation. Scramble some eggs and toast and drink your coffee as you watch the amazing sunrise on the patio. Take your time and set up your cooler and head down to the beach. Come back in for lunch and take a well-deserved nap. Get a shower and enjoy dinner and drinks on site at Laroq before heading back to the condo to have wine on the patio and listen to the waves crashing on the beach until bedtime. That sounds like the perfect day to me!
