Historisches Schulhaus in der Nähe von Goose Rocks Beach

Das Hutchin's Schoolhouse befindet sich auf einem Hügel mit Blick auf den Batson River an der Beachwood Avenue, 1,6 km vom Fischerdorf Cape Porpoise und dem schönen Goose Rocks Beach entfernt. Eine 5 km lange Fahrt oder eine Radtour bringt Sie zum historischen "Dock Square" von Kennebunport mit seinen vielen Galerien, Geschäften und Restaurants.

Dieses Haus begann 1909 als 2-Zimmer-Schulhaus. Das ursprüngliche Gebäude ist heute unverändert. Es gibt 12 Fuß hohe Decken, Holzböden, eingebaute Bücherschränke und hohe Fenster, um die sommerliche Meeresbrise anzuregen. Der vordere Eingang war einst die Garderobe und begrüßt Sie mit pastellfarbenen Glasmalereien.

Seit der Schließung der Schule im Jahr 1949 wurden ein Badezimmer, eine Küche und zwei Veranden hinzugefügt.

Ein Schulraum ist jetzt der 'große Raum' und der Speisesaal. Das andere Schulzimmer wurde in 2 14 x 14 Schlafzimmer unterteilt. Jedes hat einen begehbaren Kleiderschrank. Eines verfügt über ein Kingsize-Bett, einen Kleiderschrank und einen Schreibtisch. Beide Schlafzimmer haben 3 große Fenster und kühlende Querlüftung. Das zweite Schlafzimmer verfügt über 2 Einzelbetten, eine Kommode und einen Einbauschrank.

Die Küche ist im Galeerenstil (dh klein und effizient) und verfügt über die Grundausstattung - einen großen Herd, eine Mikrowelle, eine Kaffeemaschine, offene Regale und Unterschränke. Ein antiker Schrank dient als Vorratskammer. Die besten Eigenschaften der Küche sind das Erkerfenster über dem Spülbecken und das "Butler-Fenster", durch das man am Herd den Fluss sehen kann.

Das Badezimmer ist geräumig und verfügt über eine Badewanne mit Löwenfüßen, eine Dusche und ein Erkerfenster. Das Waschbecken ist ein Meerjungfrau-Design, das vom Eigentümer handgefertigt wurde.

Es gibt 2 Veranden. Eines ist umschlossen und hat einen doppelt großen Futon und ist dem Fluss zugewandt. Es hat rundum Fenster. Die 2. Veranda befindet sich auf der Gartenseite und ist im Freien und überdacht. Es gibt eine schöne Schaukel - perfekt, um einen Sommerregen oder die vielen Vögel und Schmetterlinge zu beobachten.

Ein Kajak steht zum Paddeln auf dem Fluss oder zum Transport zu einem nahe gelegenen Teich oder zu Gänsefelsen zur Verfügung.

Die Schulhausbesitzerin ist eine Töpferin und wird täglich in ihrem separaten Studio auf dem Gelände arbeiten. Die wöchentliche Leihgebühr beinhaltet 4 Stunden Studiozeit mit Grundunterricht - oder - Arbeiten oder Spielen auf eigene Faust!

The property is centrally located to beaches, Dock Square and all interests around Kennebunkport. The house is totally unique and charming…could not find any other as interesting or cozy. Staying in a 1909 school house is a great experience, especially with photos of prior classes that attended which Wendy has displayed. I have already booked my stay for 2026!

Charming whimsical school house home in a nice neighbor hood and near the town of Kennebunkport. Our family enjoyed our time here and the side porch with swing to gather and keep dry from the rain. My son and his girlfriend used the kayaks provided at the house to the brook and enjoyed their adventure.

Perfect vacation. This little house is just big enough for the three of us and the dog although you could easily fit another couple of people. Easy access to the beach - we went every day of our stay. House is well appointed with good Wi-Fi and a full kitchen. The host is a potter and some of her pieces are in the house - so lovely! There’s a porch swing for reading or mediating or just looking at the beautiful garden. The vibes at this place are immaculate.

Another great stay!

This is our third summer staying at the schoolhouse and there’s a reason we keep coming back! The space is everything we could need or want for our family of three, and while we did not have our pup with us this time, it always worked out well when we did! The house is perfectly located to all of the spots we like to visit: Goose Rocks Beach, Dock Square, and Cape Porpoise. The schoolhouse has high ceilings, so it feels spacious yet cozy. The air conditioning works well when needed/wanted. Overall, another great stay in the books!

Quaint Schoolhouse Stay

The Schoolhouse was a great find for our family, given we didn’t need beach access for the week. Wendy was kind and very helpful with the check-in process. The Schoolhouse is quaint and has all the charm. That to be said, I wish it was slightly cleaner upon arrival and did get several ant traps for carpenter ants throughout the house. A quick run of the vacuum and ant traps seemed to take care of the problem. Would rent here again.

The way life should be!

Wonderful location in a very unique cottage. The site is centrally located to all interesting activities but still secluded in a country setting. The cottage has all the charm of its actual beginnings…a 1909 schoolhouse. The owner even has on display pictures of school classes on the front steps! All modern facilities are provided. I have already booked next year.

Peaceful Kennebunkport Vacation

This is our third stay at the historic schoolhouse. The house, which is equipped with everything needed for a vacation, is clean, light, and filled with antiques, pottery, and whimsical decorations. The porches provide views of the flowers, birds, and fireflies at dusk. The location is a short drive to Goose Rocks Beach and the restaurants and shops in Dock Square. The owner, Wendy, is very warm and accommodating. I highly recommend staying at this historic schoolhouse in a very special part of Maine. We feel very fortunate to have been able to experience the charm and history of the home and look forward to future stays.

Absolutely Wonderful Stay

Wendy, the owner is a pleasure to know, and goes out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. I am glad she is now a part of my life. And her place is just as much a jem as she is. The house is so well decorated it's difficult to describe. It was built in the 20's as a 2-room schoolhouse. The remodeling has been so artfully done that it's like stepping back in time, while still having the modern day amenities we've all become accustomed to. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Maine…the way life should be!

The Schoolhouse has so much charm…it is difficult to take everything in. The location is ideal between Goose Rocks and Cape Porpoise…central to everything but secluded as well. Wendy and Bruce were friendly and very helpful…made me feel right at home. So much so, I have rented the Schoolhouse for three weeks next September. Wonderful spot and terrific hosts. Delightful stay

My wife, 19 year old daughter, mother in law, and our dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint and unique property. Private location, birds and dragonflies a plenty. Charming and cozy!

Came here for a girls' trip and stayed a week in this lovely property. It was utterly charming, comfortable and convenient to Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise. Wendy is wonderful - we had a homemade blueberry pie awaiting us when we arrived and were also able to meet her and take a tour of her pottery studio. This is by far one of the nicest and most unique properties we have ever stayed in and would definitely return if we were back in the area. Highly recommend!

The Perfect Spot

This property was the perfect spot for my family of three (husband, 9 year old daughter, and me) and 12 year old Goldendoodle with regards to space, cleanliness, comfort, and location. The schoolhouse is much bigger inside than we expected with large ceilings that helped keep the house cool. We are A/C people and thus appreciated how well the A/C worked and kept the house cool both day and night. The house never felt dirty or wet, which is a bit pet peeve of ours when we've rented previous Maine homes in the summer. The house is close to GRB, where we went most days, and not far from Dock Square either, so a great location. The one bathroom was nice and big for the use by all three of us, and the beds were very comfortable. The bath/shower was a little high and was a bit tricky for all of us to get in/out, especially my 9 year old daughter, so be sure to use the stool that is in the bathroom to aid with this.

Magical Cottage by the Creek

This home is a gem in the middle of Kennebunkport. At the little school house, you are treated to a carefully-curated collection of art in this lovingly-appointed home. Our dog has to come with us on vacation because we are a family package, and this little spot of loveliness was a welcoming home away from home. Very positive vibes. The School House is a quintessential Maine experience. Wendy is an attentive and gracious host. Her gorgeous work is displayed throughout the house…but wait until you see her pottery studio! It’s as charming as the home and just as inviting. We couldn’t have imagined a better experience. Thank you, Wendy!
