We live in Hlíðar, a very central residential neighbourhood built in the 1960´s. Getting here from the airport is super easy as there is a hostel in the next treet, a 2 min walking distance, where there is a bus stop for airport busses. It is just next to Perlan which has a great view over the city and sits on top of Öskjuhlíð, a forest grown hill with walking paths and old military bunkers and Mjölnir, a great fitness center where we go to yoga, kettle bell fitness and the boys train brasilian juditzu. On the other side of Öskjuhlíð is a man made beach with two hot tubs. Biking there, dipping into the hot tub and playing in the sand on the beach is a great day out. There is also two restaurants by the beach Nauthóll and Bragginn to grab a lunch or dinner.
Just behind our house is a community playground with swings, a slide, a small trampoline and a miniature football pitch. You can get to it through a gate in our back garden. There is also another playground in Klambratún (the nearest park, 5 min walk) In that park you can also find a nice cafe inside a art museum and a sledging slope in case you come over in the snow.
There is a 15-20 min walk to down town.
