Cordova, Alaska, was founded at the turn of the century as the terminal of the Kennicott Copper mine railroad. You can only reach it by one or two daily flights and the occasional ferry. It has only 2,000 residents, many commercial fishermen, and families living here for generations. There is very little tourism, and no cruise ships can dock here; it is the real undiscovered Alaska. It is known for its exceptional Silver Salmon stream fishing, King Salmon and Halibut saltwater fishing, world-class birding and waterfowl hunting on the Copper River Delta, the most extensive intact wetlands on the west coast, just minutes away, Glaciers that you can hike to, mushrooming, berry picking, bear viewing, and one of the best heli-skiing operations in the world. It even has a small local ski area. Big game hunting, including moose, bear, goats, and Sitka deer, is all exceptional.
