Enjoy everything DC has to offer conveniently from this inviting 1-Bedroom English basement apartment! Perfect for both business and pleasure visits to our capital city. Only about a 15-minute walk to the nearest METRO subway station, and steps from some of the best sites, markets, and restaurants in the city. One of the city's best restaurants, Red Hen, is walkable in less than 10 minutes from the property. Coffee is also plentiful from multiple coffee shops. Rhode Island Avenue is a direct path to Logan Circle, Dupont Circle, and the West End.
The open floorplan lends spaciousness to this apartment, that comes with a fully-equipped kitchenette: toaster oven, stovetop burner, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, and a full-size refrigerator. There is a queen-size bed in the bedroom, as well as sofa bed available in the living room. The bar-style dining table has seating enough for two.
Guest Access:
Guests will have full privacy in this garden-level 1-bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment, that has it's own private entrance.
The Neighborhood:
For a neighborhood of only about 12 square blocks, Bloomingdale manages to pack in a lot of hidden treasures: unassuming dive bars, surprise parks and award-winning restaurants. Tucked between Shaw and Eckington on the border of the District’s northwest quadrant, Bloomingdale stretches from Second Street NW to North Capitol, bordered by Florida Avenue NW to the south and Bryant and Channing places NW to the north.
Bloomingdale is known for its ample rowhouses — their colorful conic and pyramidal turrets are even featured in the opening credits of Netflix’s “House of Cards.” The large homes draw families and young renters looking for roommates, and many are split into smaller units.
Tucked away behind stately rowhouses, Crispus Attucks Park is the buried treasure in Bloomingdale’s center. At just over an acre, the park is like Brigadoon, appearing only once you’ve walked a few dozen yards down an alley between U or V streets NW. Summer afternoons there are calm, with quiet reading nooks under trees, sun-soaked benches and stretches of open field to accommodate as many cartwheels as your heart desires.
There’s also nearby LeDroit Park, which sits just west of Second Street NW between Elm and V streets NW, which offers a jungle gym for kids and a fenced-in area for pets. It’s also home to Common Good City Farm, a community farm where locals can volunteer to farm, shop for produce or learn about gardening.
There are several nearby independent small chain grocers (such as LeDroit Park market, or the mom&pop on Rhode Island and 1st st), and a mile walk or short bus ride away to major supermarkets (such as Giant) should you want to stock up during your stay. Finally, the area is not short of nightlife and many great restaurants- get in touch with me for some recommendations! Two great cafes nearby are Big Bear cafe and Windows cafe.
