The River Cottage is nestled right in the heart of the historic village of Sperryville in Rappahannock County, Virginia.This charming one story privatestructure was built in the early 1900's - owned by John Kiger. The building, now on the National Register of Historic Places, was originally a blacksmith shop. Conestoga wagons were made behind 29 Main Street along the Thornton River. It has been renovated into an quaint open one bedroom suite with private bathand is superbly appointed for guests to enjoy! Guests can make the most of private backyard and deck overlooking the Thornton River. Includes all basic necessities including bathrobes and free toiletries, has a private bathroom,fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave,bed linens,towels, free Wifi, free private parking,ac/heat,and outdoor shower. Before & After coffee shop/cafe right next door! Great location for a getaway, would definitely look to stay here again. Super clear instructions from the host, as well as flexibility to allow us to park a little before check in. Gorgeously renovated historic building with all amenities one could need for a trip to the area. Ideal for visiting Skyline Drive, Copper Fox, Little Washington and many local wineries.

The check in process was simply quick, the host provided us the directions and codes and we completed our stay. Amenities and cleanliness of the cottage was 10/10, AC and hot water was functioning properly considering the temperature outside was cold, we really needed those working well. Recommend for those looking for accommodations nearby Old Rag Mt /Shenandoah.

We stayed for one night for a quick getaway. Cottage was beautiful and very comfortable. Great location - we walked to dinner and for coffee/breakfast in the morning. Very peaceful to sit out back by the river. We loved everything about the place.

The River Cottage was PERFECT for our fall getaway. We stayed for almost a week and loved our time in historic Sperryville. We were able to walk to the coffee shop (literally next door) and market, along with restaurants and shops. Be sure to check when they're open if you're visiting outside of tourist season! The property was clean and well maintained and very comfortable. Check-in and out were easy. Highly recommend!

In every regard, and by any measure, our stay in the River Cottage was pleasant and full of comfort. The close proximity of this property's location to both rural paradise and urban life is enviable. We hope to return to discover more nearby towns and forest paths.

Charming cottage

We spent one night in the cottage and it was very charming. The host seems to care a lot about the guests' experience -- offering bathrobes and a Brita pitcher full of water in the fridge. The only thing that doesn't make it excellent in our books is that the bathroom is too small. I had to use the kitchen sink to wash my face so I don't get water all over the floor. Also, the AC couldn't get the temperature down to the 72 setting that we wanted, so it was a bit too warm to sleep.

Great cottage in a great location

This is a perfect place to stay to be right in historic Sperryville— next door to a great coffee shop and walking distance to multiple options for dinner or drinks. Cottage is compact but very comfortable. Nice outdoor space— shaded table with a ceiling fan and then beyond that (which isn’t quite clear from the pictures) is the deck overlooking the stream. Host very responsive.

Fantastic Time!

We enjoyed our stay in Sperryville very much! The house is adorable, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The location of the house could not be better! We walked everywhere and enjoyed time at Bar Francis, The Corner Store, The Black Twig, and Before and After Coffee. Additionally, the house is a 5 minutes drive to a park entrance where we enjoyed an amazing hike to Mary's Rock in Shenandoah. Amazing place, amazing time!

Cute Cottage in Perfect Location

We needed a place to stay overnight after going to dinner at Inn at Little Washington. This place was the cutest and right in Sperryville so we could take a stroll to the cafes and shops. There is a nice grass backyard with seating and right next to the river. I wish we could have stayed longer and would love to come and stay again.

Beautiful Property

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Sperryville. This property is located within walking distance (2 min) to markets and restaurants and was about a 9 minute drive to The Inn at Little Washington. Skip the cottages at Little Washington and stay here for your next visit.

Lovely retreat in Sperryville VA

We were delighted with our stay at the River Cottage. Tastefully and comfortably appointed, the cottage is very roomy with a well-stocked kitchenette and amenities for a cozy stay-in. It’s a pretty spot by the river with a dock and chairs perfect for hanging out and relaxing to the sounds of birds and flowing water. The cottage is located in charming downtown Sperryville with Before and After coffee shop right next door (delicious coffee and baked goods), cute shops, a market, and restaurants (with bar) within walking distance. We loved our stay and look forward to returning to this marvelous cottage in a great location to take partake in some of the many wine tasting tours and to simply enjoy the beautiful Virginia countryside.
