We are very thankful for our staff who, as you mention, are very accommodating and helpful. Thank you for recognizing that we cannot control the weather. January was unseasonable this year. Generally January is hot and dry and October and November are rainy but January was wetter than normal and October and November were drier than normal. The January rain made a bit of a mess of our roads that were just graded in late November/early December. The road was graded again on our last trip to South Hopkins in mid February and they are still working on completing the paving in Hopkins which was also delayed by the weather. Happily, the roads are improving in our area. Linda

We are sorry Kevin that you were disappointed with your two night stay at our property. Initially we thought you may have confused our property with another one as we have 3 pools on site, and our pool maintenance manager is meticulous and cleans them on a daily basis. Please know we pride ourselves on providing a fantastic traveler experience as you'll see in ALL of our other reviews below. We understood that you were at the restaurant beside us a couple of nights before your stay with us and you met our manager who showed you your unit and then you arrived for your stay a couple of days later. We did not get any communication from you that it was not up to your standards. We have no control over the restaurant dates of operation as it is not part of our property. There are many restaurants starting about 1.5 miles from us and continuing into Hopkins about 3 miles from us with speed deterrents on route (which is great to slow down the pace and remind people they are on vacation and not in a rush). Hopkins is a relatively quiet village. June to October is the off season so you had the peace and quiet of the property all to yourselves which is very appealing for many guests. Belize is a unique country with lots of adventures and activities to experience and/or taking time to chill and relax. We are happy to share our knowledge of the Hopkins area and Belize that we have experienced and loved for almost 20 years. Linda

We are so glad you enjoyed your vacation. Our staff is awesome and are very good at taking care of our guests. It is great that you had fabulous weather. You were concerned with the weather forecasts you were seeing just before you arrived, but these generally report Belize City and the weather varies throughout the country. As you note, our staff are proud of their heritage and are knowledgeable about the country. Ethnicity is diverse in the country and it is interesting to see the cultural differences in the various regions in such a small country. Mayflower National Park is definitely a highlight - we love the waterfall and swimming hole at the top of the falls. A few months ago, we did a hike to the lower falls which also had a great swimming hole and not as strenuous. There are still other hikes that we have not yet explored. There is also Ziplining at the same entrance to the park. There is much that Belize has to offer, as you note, it is fascinating and humbling.

We have had many guests, as per prior reviews, that find our place great hence they have given it the reviews they have. As a VRBO owner, you are aware that 5 stars on VRBO or Tripadvisor is not a rating with respect to amenities available onsite but reflects guest experience and satisfaction. We are happy that your review includes an admission that, you did not do enough research into Belize before coming. Belize is 3rd world which is what many guests are looking for rather than the all inclusive busy atmosphere of many vacation destinations. Sarkiki is designed for those looking for a self-catering, individually driven holiday experience in a beautiful undeveloped corner of the world. It is not Hawaii and should only be compared to Hawaii in beauty and nature. It is however, laid back, un-touristy and has relatively few people so does not have the infrastructure, construction, convenience and amenities of many destinations for tourists that want full amenities. That being said there are a few fully catered Resorts available nearby just south of Hopkins that, for two including continental breakfast, are priced between $398 and $690 US per night plus tax and service charge totalling another 17%. We do our best to manage expectations and we are happy to answer as many questions as possible so that we know what people are expecting. Waste management and its impact on the environment are important to us so we try to limit items that quickly become waste so we don't stock spices in the rooms including salt and pepper as they spoil quickly. We provide linens, towels etc. and there are additional available as needed or requested. We encourage guests to ask if there is anything they need. We do spray the beach and property regularly however, you likely would not have seen this as we spray in the night so as not to bother guests. If there is rain, which we understand you had some rainy weather, we don't spray as the rain dissipates the spray and it has no effect. This season has been wetter than normal and, as you can appreciate, we have no control over the weather. To clarify, it is 2.5 miles and 10 minutes by vehicle which is basically 15 miles per hour on average due to the roads being unpaved in the Hopkins area. The airport is 95 miles from us and we arrived yesterday and it was a 3 hour drive including four stops on route. Fishing and snorkeling will either pick up at the beach in front of us or you can go to the marina 1/2 mile from us
