The Caretaker’s house~ Built in 1942, it has been lovingly renovated with both comfort and function in mind. The living room / bedroom has a queen bed, an oversized chair, a dresser and lamps, and a table with two chairs. The kitchen has a ‘retro’ red fridge, a gas stove with oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans, plates, glassware, and silverware. There is plenty of cabinet space. The ¾ bath has a beautiful new shower. The flooring throughout is wood plank, waterproof laminate. There is a sweet, private covered front porch with a cafe table and chairs. Approx. size is 280 sf

This location is actually south of the town of Harmony, which caused a slight confusion. The cottage was super cute and comfortable. We enjoyed the wild turkeys and cattle roaming by the windows. Couldn't find the fire pit, but didn't really miss that opportunity. The most amazing ficus tree in the yard of the main house is worth the price of admission alone! It's humongous and must have been planted with the original structure sometime close to the gold rush. The location between Cambria and Cayucos made it a good compromise and less expensive than a beachside hotel. Great place for a medium-maintenance solo or couple.

Cute little place that met our needs for a two night trip up the coast. It was nice to have a dedicated kitchen area and the whole place was well equipped if you don't mind not having a TV. The shower stall was quite small and the heater made a very noisy knocking noise when we used it the first night so went without heat the second night and it got chilly. Loved all the windows that looked out on the surrounding landscape. The privacy was also wonderful compared to staying in a hotel.

Central California Coast Charm

We love the Cambria area and the beach hotels are getting costlier. We found this gem off the beaten path and took a chance. We loved the charm, the location and the peaceful solitude of the cottage and the farm. Know that it is small, but it is very cozy for two. Don't miss the winery just two miles down the road (Harmony Cellars) and Cambria is just a few more minutes down the road. We'll be back!

Charming Country Cottage

Our stay was wonderful. First of all, our host couple was very nice and helpful. They were attentive to any questions or needs. They gave us a nice tour of the property which great. The property was rustic with many interesting features. The cottage was homey and comfortable with all of the amenities available. The welcome book with all of the information was very clear and helpful. This property was perfect for a relaxing get away. My husband and I highly recommend the Caretakers Cottage!

Our host welcomed as we arrived to this quaint cottage on a very large rural farm. He let us know to please make contact if we needed anything or had any questions. The cottage was clean & had everything we needed for our visit. I didn't even realize there was no TV until later on, we aren't big TV watchers anyway so it was perfect. The weather was wet and the wind was wild but the cottsge was warm & dry. The cows greeted us in the evening when they came home for dinner from a day of roaming the hillside. There's a great coffee shop in Harmony just north on hwy 1, and Morro Bay is just south, perfect for dinner or groceries. A definite must to return to each year ... especially since our engagement took place in that very cottage! Thsnk you!

Just What the Doctor Ordered

This is a lovely little home on a fantastic ranch. You can see for miles from the top of the short ridge behind the house. The owners were very responsive to questions and we never saw/heard the ranch hand that was apparently living in another building. Water is not potable (but bottled water provided). And no television (what we wanted). We fell asleep to the barn owls calling to each other.

The property location was ideal.We enjoyed visiting nearby areas.Amazing market on Friday morning in Cambria.Welcome gift from local vendors would be nice.The pitcher on outside table for flowers needed cleaning.We would have appreciated labels or information in folder as to location of kitchen appliances . We found the toaster on our last day. We always cook on vacation and were dismayed with finding food residue in cookware in drawers and the drawer liners were dirty. The plastic utensils were burned and should be replace with wood. Need at least two kitchen towels for drying and more sponges.Fresher condiments, and supplies are needed.Windows were difficult to open.Insect droppings on window screens with holes. Clean windows to enjoy view of property and wildlife. Water pressure and temperature in shower were unsatisfactory andcould possibly injure someone trying to adjust.Holding window open with dowel? Maybe some hooks in bathroom to hang clothes. Laundry basket is a must! We brought some hangers, only #2 in closet.

The place and location is ideal for solo or couple traveler who loves quiet and tranquil environment. The amenities are adequate and meets the need for short term and long term travelers. It is not recommended for those with limited mobility due to the terrain and configuration of the caretaker’s cottage. The place is ideal for those who want to decompress from city life. It is full of history. The cluster of eucalyptus trees are 100 years old. There are 2 trails close to the property. Wild birds and cows roam the ranch and you can hear the owls at night time. Overall, this place is recommended for nature lovers and intrepid travelers.
