We had a great time at the Spring House. It looked exactly like the pictures and was clean and fully stocked. (FYI, as there is no picture of the bathroom on here, that was clean and cute as well, with a shower stall/no tub.) We opted to do cooking on the grill and in the kitchen and everything we needed was there, including bakeware, salt/pepper, aluminum foil, etc. The house itself was adorable. The deck was gorgeous and the view of the mountain was too. We used the kayaks, built a fire, said hi to the horses, and walked around the grounds, and we could have just stayed there the whole weekend. But the property is also not too far from the George Washington National Forest, Shenandoah River State Park, and Luray, so we checked out sights off the property as well. We also bought some steaks at the meat market (delish) and checked out a few wineries nearby.
Also, major above-and-beyond points to Kathleen and to Leon (a long-time friend of the farm) because we accidentally drained our car battery and she asked him to come out and jump our car, which he and his wife did with total graciousness. We had a great time and I'd definitely recommend going there!
This is a cute little cottage just 200 yards from the Shenandoah river, with views from the deck, which will make you take a deep breath and start relaxing right away. Perfect for one or two couples (sharing one bathroom) or a family with kids who don't mind sharing the sleeper sofa downstairs. We stayed one night together with another couple and it worked well. We will bring the kids next time. The house is equipped with all the basic necessities. The owners are very friendly and attentive.
Situated right next to a working farm, with horses, close the river, with canoes and kayaks to use, a hammock next to the river. You don't actually have to leave the place during a weekend stay. But if you do, Woodstock (8 miles away) is a quaint little town with a nice brewery (Woodstock Brew House), a cafe, a steak house and some cute little stores downtown (plus a Walmart, Food Lion, CVS and fast food places a little out of town towards the highway). There are many nice wineries close by: we went to see and taste Wolf Gap and North Mountain. Both are lovely. Don't miss Crabill's Meets, a family run butcher, 1 mile up the road from the house: they have the best steaks we have had in a very long time. We will be back!
Lovely little house. Immaculately clean. Surrounding land beautiful. Renter was wonderful to deal with. Nearby general store had WONDERFUL meats. We had a steak to die for!!!
We recently stayed at the Spring House and found it to be just absolutely charming! It was a last minute weekend get away from the city and the owners were very accommodating and patient in playing a serious game of phone tag and answering all of my questions before arrival. First star acquired for prompt and friendly response! Upon arrival to the property, instantly you can tell this is a well loved estate. The grounds are so well maintained, that you forget for a second it's a farm! Second star acquired! Upon arrival into the house...a s'mores kit awaited us on the kitchen table (this is not the norm, however, the owners heard me say that my kiddos wanted to make me s'mores for my birthday). Third star acquired for attention to detail. The fourth star is for the immaculate condition of the house and surrounding areas as well as the recreational equipment available for us to use. We enjoyed walking around the property along the river, swimming, fishing, tubing, kayaking (even my 7 year old hopped in the kayak and took off!), making s'mores and visiting the stable and petting the horses. It was an unplugged weekend and just what this city girl needed. And being a foodie...the last star is for the well appointed kitchen. Everything was laid out perfectly for ease of use. I would HIGHLY recommend any of the three properties associated with Riverview Farm!
We had an absolutely wonderful stay in this little house over the July 4 holiday! While it's an easy drive from DC, you feel so secluded and relaxed with the river, mountains and horses outside your door. You're still close enough to 81 if you wanted to do some exploring -- we made it to Cave Ridge vineyard, which I highly recommend. The house is very clean, with new appliances, and nicely appointed. While small, it was the perfect size for the two of us and our dog. The little house is in the corner of a larger vacation home's lot, but you never notice the other renters because the little home's fireplace side faces the bigger home, while the big sliding glass door (and patio) faces the pasture and river. We loved having morning coffee on the patio, watching the fog lift from the mountain; then eating dinner at the little inside table while watching the horses in the pasture. Walking to the river after dusk was an amazing sight -- the most fire-flies I have ever seen, filling up the grass and trees. We called them "nature's sparklers." Absolutely breath-taking. The owner, Kathleen, was very responsive and helpful. And the canoes and kayaks were wonderful to have available, too! We look forward to staying here again!
