Lovely Home in the Highlands of North Carolina

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Peek a Boo! We are Floridians who were seeking refuge from hurricane Ian and were so fortunate to have been able to pass the time in this sanctuary....a true home away from home. Peek a Boo left no stone unturned and came fully equipped with everything...so modern and yet still keeping the Highlands quaintness. It is situated close to main street but felt like miles away from everything...so quiet, so clean and so restful. We would spend each evening sipping wine on the screened porch listening to a hoot owl deep in the woods. I highly recommend this home to anyone seeking a relaxing vacation in Highlands!

Everything we expected and more

We stayed for 7 nights and 8 days in highlands NC. This property did not disappoint!!! Clean and cozy. Very homey. Enjoyed our time here. Small but perfect for our needs. We enjoyed the screened porch. Beds very comfortable. Well stocked with everything you need. An added benefit was the whole house generator!! Lost power due to storms. We never thought about this u til the lights etc kicked in!! Location was great. Property management responsive. We will definitely be back!!!

Enjoyed Highlands and Peek-a-Boo

Most of our problems centered around the TV and fireplace. TV remote in coffee table didn't work (no sound and channel control), so we used the one from bedroom. We did enjoy our week watching HULU movies in front of the fireplace... but, The fireplace was lacking: the "fat sticks" provided would not light a log the first evening. The solution was to buy inexpensive "Duralogs" that stayed lit for four hours! After about a 30-minute burn, adding the provided wood gave us a great fire for the evening. The owners should be made aware of this issue and pass it on to future guests. Another annoyance was the fireplace "tools": they may look cute but were totally broken and unusable. Please compare to a real set as we had difficulty maneuvering logs in the fire, and this is dangerous. The upstairs bathtub was not clean and was not used. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed our home cooking. The outdoor grill was full of spider webs and not used. If it were clean, we certainly would have used it. The instructions for using the bear-proof trash can were faded and unreadable. Had to "Google" how to open and close it securely. In the end, what Peek-a-Boo lacked was a guest "user guide" which would have mitigated all our negative issues. We have stayed at many VRBOs over the years and the guide is the first item we look for. Hope this was helpful and further hope to return.

We appreciate your feedback and wish you had reached out to us during your stay as we would have been happy to troubleshoot the TV remotes and fireplace issues if we had been made aware. We will definitely look into replacing the fireplace tools and make sure the cleanliness issues are addressed with housekeeping. We do have a Digital "Guestview Guide" on the wall at the house that explains more about specific property instructions as well as local recommendations and directions for things to do in the Highlands area. We are sorry that your experience was "less-than" but glad that you enjoyed the house anyway! And would encourage to reach out to your hosts in the future so they can address any problems as quick as possible, so you can relax & enjoy your stay that much more!
