* Ziehen Sie den Stecker! Die Kabine hat weder WLAN noch Mobilfunk, aber es gibt eine Festnetzleitung.
* Ausritte und ReißverschlĂŒsse sind auf dem GrundstĂŒck erhĂ€ltlich.
* Wildwasser-Rafting auf dem nahe gelegenen Yellowstone River.
* Wandern / Langlaufen vor der HaustĂŒr.
* Kingsize-Bett mit luxuriöser BettwÀsche.
* Blick auf die Berge aus jedem Fenster.
* Wunderschöne Lage auf der historischen Stermitz Ranch.
* Eine malerische 20-25 Minuten Fahrt zum Yellowstone National Park.
* 2 Doppel-Campingmatten (mit BettwĂ€sche) sind perfekt fĂŒr Kinder.
* GemĂŒtliche Sitzecke mit einem charmanten Propankamin.
* SorgfĂ€ltig eingerichtete Details wie eine Blechdecke, originale Holzböden, Schreibtische und BĂŒcher der alten Schule, eine Tafel usw.
* Beheizter Schieferboden im Badezimmer.
* KĂŒche in voller GrĂ¶ĂŸe.
* Möglichkeit fĂŒr Kinder, mit Tieren zu interagieren.
* Western Ranch Erfahrung.

Cabin was very cozy but a little too much emphasis on the history of the schoolhouse. Akin to staying in a museum with all of the pieces which didn’t leave any room to hang or put away clothing, etc. Forced to place suitcases on sofa and literally live out of them every day.

We 100%enjoyed our stay here. It was convenient to Gardiner and Yellowstone but far enough away from the main roads to feel remote. No WiFi or cell service can be a good thing! The schoolhouse was well appointed and very clean. We enjoyed learning about the history of the school! My husband commented several times about how he would definitely stay here again. I agree!

Great place, very clean. Great view, right in the valley. Very relaxing. Stacy is very responsive to messages and email. I have not done the horse riding with Stacy, it was already booked in Yellowstone, but highly recommend doing it with Stacy. Will visit again. Thank you.

Amazing Getaway from the Hustle of Life

The schoolhouse was perfect for my daughter and I to escape the world and connect with one another, Mother Nature, and the essence of time. The puzzle and board games were a great touch for something to do without cell service in the evening after dinner. We also booked a horseback trip on the Ranch while we were there and the Propety and Wrangler was both amazing. I really enjoyed our trip to Gardiner and the host was accommodating and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful “unplugged” week away!

Tiny School House

The location of the small school house was beautiful. It is 6 miles up a narrow, dirt road however, which was not clear in the description. Once we arrived, we realized that rather than a one bedroom cabin, this was truly a studio with the large bed taking up 70% of the living space. There were four of us, and after shuffling furniture around, and moving things, we were able to make room for the two sleeping pads on the floor. The school house is decorated like a lovely, period museum. However, it doesn’t leave room for bags or food or any of the things that a family of four will carry along. It does not have a full-size refrigerator, although it does have a standard electric range. The bathroom is small, but adequate. There were lots of towels. The host did allow us to place some food items in her freezer, so that we did not lose them, which was very kind. In short, it would be a wonderful, peaceful stay for a couple.

Very clean, modernized yet still rustic/historic looking cabin might have a smaller footprint, and the owners have utilized every square foot perfectly. Our plans to back country camp in Yellowstone changed due to the weather, and we were extremely fortunate to find the 1916 Schoolhouse available. Our host was very responsive and communicated everything perfectly. The cabin is close to Gardiner which has most everything you would need, yet it is tucked away between two mountains. It feels like you are hours away from something.

The renovated schoolhouse was a dream stay for this retired teacher! I loved all the history and added touches with the decor. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing! The proximity to Yellowstone plus the remote feel of the cabin set on the ranch gave us everything you could want in a vacation. We saw a bear cub along the road to the cabin on 3 separate occasions. Harper’s visits to our front porch were the best!

What an amazing experience

My family and I were visiting the area for the first time. We were looking for something semi secluded we wanted to actually experience Montana and what it has to offer . Stacy had perfect communication before and during the stay. Check in/out was easy. Now the Schoolhouse. We came here knowing we would have no cell service/Internet and we were bringing teenagers. let me tell you we had the time of our lives. Harper was the silent all star. What an amazing well trained beautiful dog. Property can sleep 2 adults and 2 teens. Like said before we had to shift some things but the camp mats were just as comfortable as a mattress. We had more than what we needed as far as kitchenware goes. I would definitely stay at this location again. Location is perfect. My GPS took me right to the cabin. Thank you for opening your doors to us.

A little slice of heaven

Imagine, if you can, a Yellowstone area lodging that is so nice that you just dawdle there, rather than rushing off to spend every possible moment in the park! The Schoolhouse is beautifully and cleverly decorated to commemorate its earlier life as a real school for local children, with charming memorabilia and a huge collection of old readers and other schoolbooks. Linens and kitchen items were high quality and abundant. The views are extraordinary, perhaps even moreso under the stars at night. We really enjoyed being able to take the chill off one of the evenings by using the beautiful gas parlor stove; directions for its use were very clear.We were three adults staying there, which worked fine as one of us was short enough to sleep on the loveseat; it would be especially appropriate for a couple sharing the comfortable king-sized bed, perhaps with two children on the small mats on the floor. The fridge is only mini sized; the stove and microwave were great.Directions to the schoolhouse were very good. The driving is a bit challenging, but not at all impassable. I would encourage visitors to make sure to first arrive during daylight hours, for ease of navigation. Your car will end up dusty, but that’s a small inconvenience, compared to the lovely experience you’ll enjoy.

1916 Schoolhouse rental

I think this listing was accurate and Stacy was a wonderful host. I think the two parts I found somewhat misrepresented were the proximity to the main house and other rental cabin. The photos in the listing show the other rental cabin but do not depict the very large main home that is also next door. This was not a problem but it was surprising when we pulled up. This house is VERY much off the beaten path which is exciting but it is definitely 25-30 minutes from the entrance to YNP. If you only have a few days and are using this as your main location to explore yellowstone I think there are closer options that would probably be more appropriate. We were hoping we would see more wildlife being so far out but only saw the farm horses and were greeted by a lovely very friendly dog. The bed was very comfortable, the views were lovely, the water was hot, the kitchen while obviously small was stocked with everything you'd need. I think having more than 2 people here would be very tight. Overall a great stay that I would recommend to anyone with the right expectations!

I feel extremely blessed to live in such an amazing place. My late husband and I were fortunate to raise our 4 sons, who are the 5th generation, here on the historic Stermitz Ranch. Rob worked full time as a Landscape Architect in Yellowstone. Stacy is a full time mom and manages the vacation rental properties and the horseback rides. We enjoyed working on renovation projects together, generally on the weekends as time allowed. The schoolhouse is our third complete renovation on the aging ranch buildings. The next project will be the original homestead house built in 1910. We have enjoyed the challenges that each building brings, and look forward to the day when all of the original structures have been restored and preserved!

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

After Rob and I both graduated from college and got married, we decided that this was the ideal place to raise our kids. We both shared a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the history of the area, and the proximity to Yellowstone Park makes it ideal. We just love the story of how his family came to be here. Rob's great grandfather, Joseph, was born in Slovenia, Austria in 1862 and worked in the coal mines from the age of 9. He later immigrated here from Slovenia with his wife and two children in 1892, following the promise of work in coal mines in Montana. When they arrived he found that no work was to be found. Joseph used his last $10 to buy a gun so that he could hunt in order to feed his family. While here, a fire broke out in the Cokedale mines. Joe helped put out the fires and was noticed by the mine boss who asked 'who is that good worker?' Someone explained that it was an immigrant who couldn't find work. The mine boss then said 'Put that man to work. Anyone who works that hard for no pay should get a job.' The family, along with the addition of three more children, moved to the ranch in Cinnabar Basin in 1900. They purchased the original homestead of Bob Dixon. Their house consisted of a dirt roofed dugout built by Dixon. Later, when the mine closed in 1910, the lumber was brought from the hospital building in Aldrige to construct a log and lumber house. Rob's grandfather was born here in 1910. He later attended this school. In 1935, Rob's grandfather married Gladys Elliott, who was one of the teachers at this schoolhouse. Their son, Jim, also attended school here and continued to live here on the ranch with his wife Lorayne.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

The ranch is ideally located in the remote mountains of the Gallatin National Forest, while still being a close drive to the many wonders of Yellowstone National Park. We enjoy watching the abundant wildlife, hiking and skiing from our back door, and taking a horseback ride up the scenic mountain trails that the ranch has to offer. Being in the great outdoors is what this property is all about! Experience what life is like on a western ranch. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.
