The Sierra Bungalow features works from local artisans, highlighting the beautiful Sierra. Relax after hiking in the over-sized bathroom with large walk-in shower, and shared hot tub.
Do a quick trip, host a company team building retreat, a wedding, or have a friends and family get together with the the Mountain Meadow House and the Ranch Bungalow and Camping located on the 90 acre Ranch. Stay on the property, checkout trails, local birds, go for a day trip to Yosemite National Park, or explore the unique Tuolumne River headwaters region. Red Tail Ranch is waiting for you!
Red Tail Ranch is a 90-acre property that surrounds a unique 25 acre meadow complex, rich in picturesque conifers, oaks, and special habitats and moments. We acknowledge the land is the homeland of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation. The land is complex and you can retreat into nature. The Mountain Meadow House and Ranch and Sierra Bungalows overlook the meadow with outdoor porches, patios, and hot tubs to best relax and reconnect to nature.
The gravel drive is nearly 3/4 mile off the main road, so the only noise you will hear is frogs, songbirds, owls and aspen leaves. We respect your privacy but the host is nearby. Red Tail Ranch is available to be rented with additional options through booking the Mountain Meadow House, Sierra and Ranch Bungalows and our Campground area. Please message us for team building, weddings or other retreat options.
All outdoor parts of Red Tail Ranch are available and accessible to you. We ask you respect privacy of other guests on the shared Meadow Patio by turning off lights, and reducing noise at 10pm unless renting the entire property.
Our favorites restaurants:
Iron Door Saloon: Oldest continuously running saloon in California.
Two Guys Pizza: Close by and great Pizza.
Cocina Michoacana: Good Mexican food
Evergreen Lodge: 45 minutes away. Turn left on Evergreen Road just before the park entrance. Go 7 miles. Best restaurant in the area! Where Len works.
Rush Creek Lodge: Just before the Yosemite Park gate. Great restaurant. Sister property to Evergreen Lodge.
Buck Meadows Restaurant: Open seasonally, 20 minutes away, but great for a good breakfast on the way to Yosemite.
Do not use GPS to get to Yosemite! Go back to Groveland and turn left on Hwy 120. Come back the same way as you have to use the Main Gate.
Yosemite National Park Big Oak Flat gate is about 30 minutes away. The 7 day entrance fee per car is $35. When you enter the park you will be given a map of the park and a newspaper outlining current events. Besides the main valley don’t miss:
Vernal Falls
Mariposa Grove Sequoias (or at least go to Tuolumne Grove)
Tunnel View
Glacier Point (closed in Winter, call the above number for current conditions)
Tioga Pass and Kennedy Meadows (closed in Winter, call the above number for current conditions)
One of my favorite shorter hikes is May Lake (or if you’re feeling fit, carry on to Mount Hoffman) off Tioga Road.
You may also think about visiting Hetch Hetchy. Groveland and the San Francisco peninsula get water from the reservoir there. It has a wonderful trail of about 2 miles to a beautiful waterfall. The best part is that it is not as crowded as the main part of the park. To get there take Hwy 120 and just after Rush Creek Resort (1 mile before the Park entrance) turn left onto Evergreen Road. It’s 8 miles down that road. You pass through Evergreen Lodge after 7 miles which has an amazing restaurant.
