Not what it seems
We struggled with a lot during this stay. The kitchen was filled with ants and we had pest control come out twice. Roaches were prevalent and there was inadequate cleaning, with roach parts under beds and tables. The kitchen was VERY small…only fits one person in it. We had to wash every dish and glass when we arrived. They were dirty with food and fingerprint smears on glasses. One of the showers had the water turned off, took five days to fix.
Booking for twenty is not recommended. Too small Bedrooms are crowded with beds. The dining table seats only 6.
The grill was filthy…took my husband and hour to clean despite web site threats that security deposits would be kept if dirty.
The railing on the deck is very loose, making it a definite security hazard.
The washer/dryer stopped working the day we were to arrive, causing us to wash by hand most of our stay. The management company finally agreed, after two days waiting around house for washer delivery, to wash our clothes, towels and sheets on day 7 of our stay. ( on day 5 we got one load of laundry washed.). Living room seats only 5 (web site picture has three couches, there is one couch/and one loveseat.). The patio chairs do not have cushions, and since they do not have webbing, very uncomfortable.
What we did not know is that Surfside allows cars to drive on the beach. Early in morning, trucks drive up and set up major parties right in front of properties. The first Saturday we were there there was public drunkenness and police sirens until after midnight. The second Saturday we were able to get together with neighbors and set up a “kid friendly” area to keep out the wild parties.
The management company “gave us” a late checkout for our trouble in the week and did not charge us for our two dogs. However, on day 6 after check out, our cleaning deposit still not returned..despite leaving the place very clean.
Management company not highly communicative. Best response was for the ants. They did wash and deliver our clothes in day 7.
Location was good. We were steps from the sand. The water there has a sandbar, so was shallow for the kids. Two good restaurants were nearby. Lake Jackson has great grocery and shopping options. Captain Mark seafood market had amazing fresh fish. Only 20 minutes from house.
This was an overall disappointment. I write this so others can be aware that the place needs a lot of work and beach is very crowded on weekend. During week was quiet.
