The house is pretty run down inside and out. A thorough cleaning, de-cluttering, some new dishes, pillows, and blankets would be a good start. Given the location, the morning sun on the deck, the lake access... it could be a great place, but it isn't now.
We stayed the last week of summer and had a wonderful time. The view was amazing, weather perfect, lake beautiful, and the lake house was spacious, clean, and met all of our needs. It was also well stocked with basic supplies. We had five in our party, three adults and two teenagers. We were able to meet the owners, they came to extend the dock so we could better enjoy the water as water levels were low. They were kind and helpful, we really enjoyed visiting with them. The one and only suggestion we have is to replace and/or add some screens on sliding door and a couple of windows to keep the bugs out. Otherwise we had an awesome stay at Wallowa Lake!
This was the second time my husband and I stayed at the house. My husband, son and our daughter-in-law loved the new boat dock! Karin had told me the fish were biting and they were. We had a great fish fry one night for dinner!
Our grandsons (5 and 1) had fun.....we had to put up the baby gate to keep Connor from going up the stairs. He started walking while we were there. Must have been that great lake atmosphere! 😊
The only issues we had was that there was only one bathroom......that and the stairs: with a bad back, knees and hips, it taxed my husband and I a little.....oh, but the view from the deck more than made up for it!
It's a lovely place and we thoroughly enjoyed our selves and hope to come again. Wallowa Lake is a great place to get away, regroup and refresh body and mind. Our thanks to Karin and Gus.
Our family of 4 had a nice weekend at this lakefront home. The decor is nicer than the pictures show, though the home is not in as good shape as other rentals we have stayed at in other towns. Just has signs of age. The updates they have done (laundry and bathroom, in particular) are nice. The homes on the lake are very close together, but we didn't notice the neighbors as they were an inside, older couple. Not sure why the guest from May 2016 said there was no dock available because it was right there. You will definitely want to bring your own boats or SUPs to use. The home is well stocked with kitchen supplies, pantry items, towels, and sheets. The beds are comfortable (and we are picky about that!). It was cold and a bit rainy during our stay, so we didn't need the windows and doors open as much, but I could see how the lack of a screen door to the deck would be an annoyance on a warm, buggy weekend. We selected this house because it was closer to town than the other rentals on the lake, but staying farther south would have worked just the same for us. You could walk to town if you really wanted to, but it's not a "walk to dinner" sort of distance or terrain because of a number of hills. The owners were easy to work with.
The view was lovely. We were expecting a dock to fish from but it wasn't on the property. The indoor stairs need a handrail for safety purposes.
The location, right on the lake, was truly phenomenal. Swimming and fishing just out the back door kept the kids and husband enchanted. No one wanted to leave the house to go see any of the other amazing sights in the Eagle Caps.
The house is comfortable, though be aware it's rustic, with many screens missing. In particular the lack of a screen door in the back means that you can't enjoy the night time summer air without inviting in hoards of insects.
Overall, the experience left us wanting more, and we hope to make this into a regular family vacation.
