The apartment is close to Webster St (West End) where you can find the farmer's market Tuesday and Saturday, a neighborhood bar, restaurants, coffee shops and public transportation. Buses take you to the Bay Area Rapid Transit , San Francisco, Berkeley or just around this 5x3 mile island. The ferry is 11/2 miles away.
Not far away is the old Navy base, home to the WWII aircraft carrier, The Hornet, with very informative tours, a WWII museum and usually playful sea lions .. Along "Spirit's Alley",in the same area ,are many brew pubs, a couple of wineries, Hangar 1 Vodka, St. George Spirits Distillery, most with a back drop of the SF sky line. The first Sunday of each month Michaan's Auction house hosts a large antiques fair on the old tarmac. This area of Alameda is constantly changing as the redevelopment continues.
