Great stay, Great location and great hosts

My family and I had a blast staying in Jaco. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. We loved being so close to the beach and our family made good use of the pool. The only concern was that some of the rooms felt a bit musty with the layout and humidity outside. Still a great holiday and we would happily work with these hosts again when we return to Costa Rica.

Everything about the experience was perfect, the villa is a great layout was very clean, and the host Tia took care of everything. It’s also at a perfect location in Jaco, close enough to town to walk, but at the nicer end of the beach.

Family/friends getaway

Unbelievable house. 17 of us stayed and there was plenty of room. Not much inside gathering space, but who wants to stay inside when you are in Costa Rica? Dani the host was spectacular!!! She recommended a lot of activities which all were great! Zip line, fishing, waterfalls, side by side tours and chocolate tour. There is also a great restaurant next door (mahi mahi) they cooked breakfast everyday for us and served us dinner on the beach. All together a great time and we will definitely be back!

I stayed at this property with my family and it was more than I could have imagined. The house was located right on the beach and we were able to surf right out front. Best place we have ever stayed

Fifteen of us stayed for six days. They kept asking where I found this wonderful place. The house was perfect for us. The pool was so warm and welcoming. The beach was perfect. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing. Many enjoyed the surf and leaning to surf. The food that the chefs cooked for us was absolutely delicious. We appreciated the scheduling help from Tia.

Great location and Staff

Home is well equipped and is really a great layout for a large family. We were 17 and we fit with no problem. Tia the concierge, was a great asset. She helped with excursions, chefs, restaurants and any other questions we had. Robbie who was the on site manager/security was always there to help. nice property. Would return again.

Amazing time at Casa Rio Mar

We had a wonderful vacation at Casa Rio Mar. All of us, from the litlle 4 years up up to the eldest 55; we all had a amazing time. Pool, sand, sun, ocean, volleyball, beach soccer, bbq. There was nothing missing. The house is great and all the assitance included. Definetely we are coming back!!!

A Vacation Cut Short (Bed Bugs)

First off, the house is nice and the staff are great. We had a nice time here for a few days. We were visiting with 14 family members for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, my family member was bitten by beg bugs on her legs, abdomen, and face. The sheets had red/brown stains suggesting the presence of bed bugs and the mattress had large dark brown stains also suggesting bed bugs. My family member went to the doctor who confirmed the bed bug bites. We left the home after discovering the issue and needed to stay in a hotel. The owner of the home did not take responsibility for the bed bugs and blamed the beach. The owner hired an exterminator to visually inspect the property and they did not see any bed bugs. That said, it may have been an early infestation with a few bugs which could be extremely hard to find visually (is what our doctor said). Plus the mattress and sheets showed evidence as well. Ultimately the ownership did what they could, but we did not feel comfortable staying at the home and needed to leave. The owner has so far refused to give us a refund despite the evidence from the doctor, the dirty sheets, and the mattress. They said they would fumigate the place (they also need to replace these mattresses). Overall we were having a great time even if Jaco isnt the best spot in Costa Rica (not the prettiest beach and downtown is not tourist friendly), but the house cleanliness left my family member bitten on her face and us stuck in a hotel.

We truly regret that one of the members in Lawless family had an allergic reaction to something while visiting Costa Rica. It's our goal for each and every customer to have the best time while vacationing and staying at the house and our reviews reflect that. In 9 over nine years, we have never received a complaint for cleanliness, bugs, or resolving unforeseen problems that can occur on any house, timely and fairly. In this case we simply disagree as to the problem, and we offered what we believed were fair and generous solutions in light of our disagreement. First of all Bed bugs are not native to Costa Rica. They have never been in the house . To be sure for our customers we had a professional company come and inspect for them. They use professional lighting and equipment that will detect them. The comment that they are not visible is just not true when it comes to professional pest control methods. The house did receive two professional reports that show there was no bed bugs. Most likely the customer was bitten by a native bug and had an allergic reaction. The doctor who the customer met with was inappropriate to state that he can tell by type of bite. I, as the owner seeking the truth called two reputable doctors in our area and both it is a common misconception for people with a reaction to assume bed bugs not knowing they are not in Costa Rica and certainly not knowable from the bite. In an effort to satisfy our customer.......(only 1 of the 14 guests had this reaction). we offered to pay for a extra hotel room next door during the entire stay eliminating the need to use the in-question bedroom. That offered was not acceptable. We also offered to move them to a comparable house. That too was not acceptable. Instead the group stayed well into the evening of the 5th night when they decided to move to a hotel for the last 2 or 3 nights. We feel we did everything that was possible to be sure there was safety issue, we felt that we offered two very fair solutions if they chose to move. We did not feel it was a reasonable request by the customer to provide a full refund after the have enjoyed and used the house for 5 days of the seven-day reservation. We will provide a credit for future use if the lawless family ever decides to return.

Beach retreat for a large group

The home is positioned on the south end of Jaco Beach so away from the hustle of the town. The ocean floor in front of the home is terrific for ocean sports. The gentle, high tide waves are perfect for beginner surfers. The home accommodates a large group. We slept 16 easily among 3 young families. There were some needs during our stay and the property manager was very responsive. There are full-time security guards so safety was never an issue.

Loved Casa Rio Mar!

We spent 10 days at Casa Rio Mar over Christmas and New Year's. What a perfect location to celebrate the holidays. Perfect weather every day in an amazing location. Everything is close by - restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and plenty of activities. Casa Rio Mar sits oceanfront in Jaco and really includes all amenities needed to enjoy a fantastic break. Matt was a great host, offering local advice on things to do, places to go, and lined up some amazing adventures during our stay. Sun, sand and surf at your doorstep! Our activities: -Fishing out of Herradura. Matt lined us up with an outstanding Captain. We caught six large Mahi and two sailfish. Captain Henry and first mate Will were amazing. -A day at Tortuga Island with the entire family, included snorkeling, sun on a small quaint island. -A day at The Ranch at Ocean Park where we rode ATV's, zipline, waterfall repelled and rode horses. The all day pass includes lunch at their new restaurant and a guide for the day. Jose was incredible! And only 15 minutes outside of Jaco. -New Year's Eve sunset horseback ride with Cowboy Tours for the entire family. So fun, well timed and organized. -Monkey Mangrove Tour was so cool. A two hour tour on a boat with a guide. We had Crazy Alex as our guide, who could speak to the animals - amazing. We saw many monkeys, iguana, raccoon, birds and various plant species. -Matt lined up a couple of excellent chefs to cook for us at dinner. What a great experience and the food/service was impeccable. No need to rent cars. Rent golf carts or cab around town. The security guards were excellent, taking care of us and the home. Jaco Beaches are very well maintained. Surfing was great for all ages and abilities. We cannot wait to return! The McDonnell Family

Epic Vacation

The property couldn’t have been more ideally located and set up as a beach front property. The house is gorgeous and the staff made it sparkle everyday. Matt the concierge helped us put together a week of great times and experiences that are unforgettable

Absolutely the best VRBO we have ever had!!

The house was very nice and in a good location. Jim (owner) and Matt (the manager) are absolutely the best! I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

We loved this house!

My family of eight, which included my husband and myself, my eldest son who is 22, my 12 and 13 year olds, my sister and my elderly parents ( both 84 ) enjoyed this vacation home very much. There was plenty of space and privacy for each of us. The beds were awesome, great linens, and towels too. We chose to use the professional chef services which was amazing. The location was perfect, right on the beach with a private pool too! We had surf boards, boogie boards and other toys to use and the security guards on the property were awesome too. Great trip!

AMAZING Vacation house!

Casa Rio Mar is a truly beautiful home on the best part of Jaco beach. We were a group of 11 (6 adults and 5 teenagers) and the home fit us perfectly. A huge thank you to Jim, the owner, Susan, who created our itinerary and booked our excursions and Edwin who made us feel at home making sure our trip was nothing but amazing! We highly recommend the chef services also. Jose was awesome and cooked us 4 incredible meals. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home and helping us create lasting memories with our families!
