We made the grave error of booking this property for our first ever trip to Aruba.
Upon arrival, we were Greeted with a musty smell, which encompass the entire property. Clearly no one had stayed there for some time.
There were drawers missing from the kitchen cabinets, and the front window was cracked, as if someone had recently tried to break into the home.
Outside in the pool, there was dead animals floating so clearly no one had been at the property prior to our visit. Strangely enough, we were contacted by the host who wanted to show the property while we were staying there? We were completely flabbergasted. We had booked this vacation months before and the thought of having somebody in the property when we weren’t there was unsettling to say the least.
We stayed but one night and contacted the host the following day. After some back-and-forth, the host left unsettling and threatening messages on our voicemail after we left to go to a different property. We thought we would be fair and offered to eat at least 50% of our booking cost and were met with exceptionally unprofessional conduct which we had never encountered before as VRBO renters for over 10 years.
Unfortunately, where we had hoped, VRBO would be an amenable and assist us with this matter, they were little to not helpful at all. Thankfully, we are able to book on a different platform, a far cleaner and suitable property for the remaining time in Aruba which saved the day for us.
