Amazing Open-Air Penthouse in a Man-Made Cave at Luxury Resort

On the island of Crete in Greece, you must first go up, up, up to enter the mythical cave of Zeus, the putative birthplace and protective lair which kept the young god safe from his father Krónos. To enter The Cave at the Marcela Resort, a similar upward trek must be taken but there is no mythology here, only first-class luxury in a truly magical open air penthouse.

Shrouded in trees, high up beneath the canopy and straddled by cascading water sits this one king bedroom, two-bath penthouse with one-of-a-kind furniture and million dollar views that is, in truth, fit for a god. The Cave will provide you not only with a setting unlike anything else in Mexico (or the world for that matter), but also with the god-like ability to actually control nature! With the casual flick of a switch, the majestic waterfalls which soundscape our property can be brought to a halt, leaving the natural sound of silence in your penthouse cavern.

Unlike every other cave on the planet, ours is an open-air paradise with multiple living trees rising up through the middle of it. The living room, bedroom, sitting room, and dining room table all have windowless windows looking out over the sea, the old town of Puerto Vallarta, the resort pools, waterfalls, gardens, and the Marcela villas themselves. Prepare to have your breath-and your earthly cares-taken away!

Alongside The Cave's king bed is a garden oasis, with trickling water and a dozen hanging baskets and potted plants of greenery which, in the height of midday, will be dappled with sunlight. This dramatic in-villa garden gives you a real-life nature display to help you drift off to dreamland beneath the colorful sconces of the ceiling fan.

Inside one of The Cave's two bathrooms is a sunken tile tub which is also adjoined by a private garden, providing an extra dose of zen to the most relaxing and intimate moments during your stay. Additionally, there is a bidet along with a toilet and ample dark wood cabinets and shelves for storage. In the second bath sits a spa shower, toilet, sink, and more dark wood cabinets.

The Cave's open plan, commercial-grade kitchen is down a short flight of stairs, situated before the official entrance into the penthouse's living and dining space, which has its own refrigerator for your middle of the night essentials, a coffee maker, sink, and table for six.

Woven basketed lights drop from the limbs of a magnificent tree that grows up through your living quarters in The Cave and provides shade for the hot tub, koi ponds, and lounging area high up in the heavens of Marcela. The Cave also features a full-size washer and dryer and complimentary Wi-Fi.
