You can walk downtown, and watch cheese being made at Ashe County Cheese, the only cheese factory in North Carolina or catch a movie at one of two movie theaters. Take in the gorgeous Churches of Frescoes with painting by Ben Long. Enjoy a scrumptious meal at Craft Bistro or Hotel Tavern. Check out Boonedocks, or New River Brewery for a local beer. Numerous art galleries dot downtown including RT Morgan, Lenore Depree and many more.

Spend the day hiking Mount Jefferson (only a five-minute drive) or head to the Blue Ridge Parkway just a short ten-minute drive away. If you wish to ski, head to Appalachian Ski Mountain (45-minute drive), Beech Mountain (1 hour and 15 minutes) or Sugar Mountain (1 hour).
