ACCESSIBILITY NOTES:
Sea Ranch Abalone Bay was originally designed as a private residence and is not fully accessible for guests with mobility challenges. While the main living areas are on one level, there are several steps throughout the home and outdoor spaces. If you have specific accessibility questions, please feel free to contact us before booking and we will be happy to help determine whether the home will be comfortable for your stay.

* Guest Bathrooms: The hall bathroom (serving the first two bedrooms) has a doorway wide enough for a walker. A wheelchair may enter but turning space is limited. The tub has a sliding glass door enclosure, a wall-mounted safety bar, and non-slip mats are provided.

* The Principal Bedroom’s en-suite bathroom: Accessed through a short hallway. A walker will fit, but wheelchair turning space is limited. The Roman tub includes three interior steps with safety rails, and a teak stool with adjustable legs is available. Grab bar is located beside the toilet.

* Steps and Level Changes: Guests should note several steps and thresholds throughout the property, including:
-One step from garage access to the entry deck
-One step between the deck and garage/laundry room
-One step down into the game room
-Two interior steps between the dining and living rooms
-Sliding doors to decks and courtyard with small thresholds or steps
-Several steps between decks, garden areas, and courtyard
-The Roman tub in the principal bathroom includes three steps inside the tub.

* Outdoor Areas: Decks and garden pathways include steps and uneven pavers. The path from the house to the oceanfront bluff trail is flat but uneven, with natural terrain typical of coastal landscapes.

*Bedrooms: The height from the floor to the top of each mattress is approximately 28 inches.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
Abalone Bay is a waterfront property with private beach access, allowing you to step out and explore the tide pools and coastline. The Sea Ranch community offers 50 miles of natural trails winding from the ocean bluffs, through grassy meadows, and into majestic redwood forests. Guests may bring their own bicycles to use only on designated trails and community roads.

This property is immersed in a vibrant coastal environment. You may encounter local wildlife, including deer, raccoons, and various birds. Please be aware that you are in a natural setting.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:
We respect our guests' privacy and aim for a seamless, independent stay. We are available via the app or phone if any questions or needs arise during your stay. We want to ensure you have a comfortable and memorable visit.

OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE:
-Booking Requirement: Your booking is finalized upon signing our rental agreement and providing a copy of your valid photo ID within 48 hours. A $500 security hold is also required before arrival.
-Check-in/Out: Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM.
-Ocean Bluff Safety: The property is located on an ocean bluff with an unfenced 30-foot drop to the rocks below. Please supervise children at all times. Never turn your back on the ocean, as sneaker waves can be dangerous.
-Security: For your safety, security cameras are installed on the exterior of the property, monitoring the driveway and entryways only. No cameras monitor the private courtyard or any interior spaces.
-Safety features: Fire extinguishers located in the kitchen, garage, and BBQ areas. CO monitors and Fire alarms, First aid kits
-Hot Tub: maintained by trained pros, chemically balanced, and regularly serviced after each guest for your safety.
-Construction Notice: A new home under construction next door is expected to be completed July 2026.
-No Air Conditioning: The home does not have air conditioning. We provide ventilation fans to supplement the natural sea breezes that keep the house cool and comfortable.
-Septic System: The house operates on a septic system. Please do not flush anything other than toilet paper.
-Generator: A full-house generator ensures you have power during any outages. Please note the generator does not heat the hot tub.

The Perfect Coastal Escape

Our two-month stay at Abalone Bay in Sea Ranch was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment Jordan and I arrived, we were blown away by the incredible ocean views and the cozy, thoughtful amenities that made the house feel instantly like home. ​What truly set this experience apart, however, was our host, Donna. She is by far the most attentive and accommodating host I’ve ever experienced. She truly thought of absolutely everything, anticipating our needs before we even realized we had them. Spent 6 beautiful sunny days at Sea Ranch Abalone Bay. Daily temperatures ranged from 62 to 70 degrees with moderate winds. All of which is unusual for March. Spectacular weather for our dog, Bear, to take us on walks on the bluff just outside the house. Watched whales spouting while sitting in the living room enjoying a glass of Convene Pinot Noir. This week, Abalone Bay offered a quiet kind of magic.

Peaceful getaway in a spectacular oceanfront setting

This was our second stay at Abalone Bay and it was as enjoyable as the first visit. The home was plenty spacious for our family of 5 adults and one golden retriever. We were fortunate to see whales, deer, seals and a fox all on the ocean bluff just outside the home. This home is not your typical vacation rental, it is extremely well cared for, every home need is in place and it is so comfortable. We look forward to returning!

The property’s location is unbeatable to relax with calming views all around. It is also well stocked with all the luxury amenities to make one feel truly pampered. The communication was excellent! Kitchen had all the necessary items needed and more! Hot Tub was a good size and in great condition. Living area was great for watching tv in the evenings. Recuperation

Took advantage of Abalone Bay’s peaceful calm to aid in wife’s recovery after major surgery. She needed to get away from all that was associated with it and Abalone Bay helped to do that. The sounds and sights of the ocean coupled with the Christmas decorated home provided the environment needed for rest and recuperation. It also provides plenty of activity for Bear, our dog, to burn off his excess energy so he, too, is calm. Abalone Bay is where we go when we need to get away from it all.

Sea Ranch Heaven on Earth

We loved the house that looked even better in person. The location was great and house perfect for a group of adults. We especially appreciated the well equipped kitchen, BBQ and access to walking trail. We hope to return.

We had a lovely stay and Donna was incredibly accommodating and responsive at every turn. She went out of her way, on the same day we came in, to leave a cute little dolphin plushie and a baby shirt from Gualala (I had mentioned we're expecting). The home was spotless, the primary view unbelievable, and the home well-stocked.There was some construction going on next-door, which was perhaps a tad less peaceful/private, but that's not the fault of the host. That aside we'd definitely stay here again.

Perfect Stay!

The house is in a fantastic location steps away from the bluff trail and only a few minute walk to see the seals or explore the tidepools. Beautiful house, incredible views, and a very comfortable stay. Kitchen was well equipped with anything we could need to cook our meals for the week. Exceeded expectations and would recommend.

Holiday Escape

Stunning home in an incredible location. This was our first time at Sea Ranch and it was breathtaking and in this house you really go to take in the views. It was the perfect holiday escape and we’ll definitely be back! Donna is truly a super host and provided us with a plethora of information for our trip.

Abalone stay

Great house and terrific location. Had our dogs with us and very easy to have them there. There’s a great dog park to give them a lot of running. House was equipped with everything you need and more. We had a week of great weather so walking and exploring was great would recommend this property whole heartedly

Great place to chill

If you need to unwind, there is no better place than Sea Ranch. And if you are looking for a place to stay, Abalone Bay ticks all the boxes. Located on the bluff, the home provides quick access to about 8 miles of oceanside walking trails. It comes fully equipped with everything you’ll need for your stay and it is dog friendly. The owner provides a guidebook that lists things to do, places to eat, area current events, and other information regarding how to use everything the home.

Birthday and anniversary trip

Beautiful property with expansive, excellent views. The home is very well laid out with plenty of room for all of us. The furnishings are both comfortable and modern. The patio and hot tub area is very nicely landscaped and immaculate. Our little beagle Daisy also enjoyed the views and walks. It was perfect even with some rain.

My husband, Jorge, and I have always had a love affair with the Sonoma Coast, and most especially with The Sea Ranch. Just before we made up our mind to purchase our home, Jorge went diving in the waters below. There, he harvested his first 10" abalone! That cinched the deal and gave rise to our naming our new home "Sea Ranch Abalone Bay" for the cove that graciously gave up the yummy mollusk. Unfortunately, harvesting abalone is no longer possible, but spearfishing and fishing off the bluff remain a favorite activity for Jorge and me, and our many guests. We'll be happy to share some of our insider tips with you, too!

We give back to our community globally and locally.
We have always believed in the importance of family, friends, and giving back to our community. No matter where we have lived over the years we have always been active in the community we call home. That connection shows that we are all linked no matter where on the globe we or our guests may be at any moment.

In these times of climate change with its global warming, it becomes even more important that Abalone Bay recommits itself to the original covenant of The Sea Ranch, "to live lightly on the land,". Further, we also declare a climate emergency. Based on the science before us, we promise actionable steps to stop the climate emergency we now face. For that reason, we have joined initiatives that supports tourism businesses, organizations, and individuals that declare a climate emergency and take purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions.

We also act locally as members of the Sea Ranch/Mendocino Community. A portion of the proceeds from your guest rental is given directly back to the people of "Mendonoma." We also invite our guests to join us in this endeavor. Local non-profits we support include: Coastal Seniors, Action Network, Redwood Coast Humane Society, and Redwood Empire Food Bank.

From the very first moment we set foot on the bluff where our home now rests, we knew The Sea Ranch would forever be our sanctuary. The call of the ocean—sometimes gentle and sparkling, other times wild and dramatic—pulls you in, its shifting moods painting a new picture every day. Over time, we expanded to include a game room and garage complete with ping pong and outdoor games, as well as a private courtyard with a hot tub just off the principal bedroom—perfect for soaking while gazing out to the endless ocean and stars above. What drew us here, and what continues to hold us, is the harmony of joy, relaxation, and connection—among family, friends, and the extraordinary natural world that makes The Sea Ranch unlike anywhere else.
