So much to explore in The Valley of the Kings in Southwest Ohio

Clean comfortable lodging with plenty of room for everyone to gather with open living room, kitchen and dining area. The large shaded backyard is a great gathering place with an outdoor kitchen and plenty of seating where you can hangout, grill or have a campfire. Your Home Base is conveniently located to area attractions to the East, West and South, where there is literally something for everyone and most attractions are FREE!! If you want to travel a little farther for a day trip, Long’s Retreat or Kings Island would be a good choice. There are three quaint small towns close by with unique shopping and eateries, one with a Distillery, another with a Brewery and there are eight amazing Pamela Kellogg Muriels in the area as well. Four prehistoric Indian sites, recently designated as Ohio’s First World Heritage Sites are nearby. Serpent Mound and Seip Mound are south of the rental, Hopewell Ceremonial Mounds are due east and Fort Ancient is to the west. (To see the fifth site requires a two hour drive north.) Family pets are welcome! Just message us for prior approval. We offer flexible check-in and check-out times when possible. Whoever you are bringing with you will be happy with your choice! Unplug, unwind and refresh! So whether you are coming to SHOP, EXPLORE, VISIT family, HUNT or FISH, you will be captivated by The Paint Valley at the foothills of Appalachia. Once you experience the abundance of wildlife, history, natural wonders, nature preserves, artisans, performing arts, quality antiques, Amish and Mennonite communities, Two State Park Lakes and the presence of Prehistoric Indians, you will wish you were staying longer!

HUNTERS. The Paint Creek Lake Wildlife Area is at the end of our road with over 5,000 acres of Public Hunting Grounds. There is plenty of access with well marked parking areas. One third of the Area is agriculture (corn and beans), one third is woods and one third is reverting prairie. There is plenty of parking. Back up on the gravel drive and hang your field dressed deer right from the bed of your truck. On the back deck is an outdoor work table with running water to process your game. We can provide maps and ODNR Hunting Regulations booklets. Hunters can also find rabbit, turkey, quail, pheasant and dove in the area. However, the best dove hunting is found at the Fallsville Wildlife Area, 15 miles from the rental. Paint Creek State Park’s Archery Range is about 20 miles from the rental and not far from there are two Archery Stores.

FISHING ENTHUSIASTS have TWO Ohio State Park Lakes to choose from, less than 15 miles from the rental. There is plenty of parking. Outback is a fish cleaning station. Check out the Fishing Tournament Schedules for Rocky Fork Lake and Paint Creek Lake.

There is so much to see and do and best of all, most attractions are free! Your Home Away from Home is “Just a Step Away” to: SHOPPING: Outlet Malls, Antique and Mennonite Stores. THE ARTS: Stores featuring local artisans using locally sourced material; Two Historic Performing Arts Theaters, restored and operating. EXPLORING: Kayaking, Hiking Trails: Creeks, Caves, Grotto's, and Limestone Walls; ADVENTURE: Abundance of Wildlife: Hunting, Fishing, Bird Watching; Two State Parks with Lakes: Swimming, Boating, Fishing, Kayaking and Canoeing, Mountain Biking, Cross Country Skiing, Archery Range. LEARN: Museums: Nature, History and RARE Fossils. And our Favorite: THE ANCIENTS: Pre Historic Indians who flourished in this Valley, from about 200 BC to AD 500. We love this Valley and would love to share our favorites with you, along with maps and insider tips.

Jim and I spend most of our time at home chilaxing, though I still like to travel, explore and camp with my children, siblings (I have fourteen brothers and sisters!) and their families. Then Covid hit and EVERYTHING shut down including campgrounds and swimming pools! Well, being all about family, we solved that dilemma. We furnished a mobile home on our property with beds and stocked the kitchen. Family and Friends spent time with us and we were able to spread out in the big back yard. We had a great summer and fall with family in 2020. We have a great location and set up for an overnight rental and we want to share what we experienced there with our own family. We started renovations in August of 2022 and completely furnished the rental. Our first guests, in November of 2022 were bowhunters from Texas, hoping to get a BIG Ohio Buck. However, during musket loading season, it was a guest from Idaho who accomplished that! In setting up our rental, we took into account what WE like and expect from an overnight rental. It is our hope that our guests expectations are met and they leave with great memories spent with family and friends. Make our place YOUR “home base” and a springboard to adventure!

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

Explorers, historians and collectors would describe Jim and I. We married later in life. Jim was retired (doing some aspect of farming all his life mostly in the East Monroe area) and later I retired from public school as a Social Worker. We each have three children and in their younger years spent summers camping and kept busy with family gatherings, school, 4-H, performing arts and sports. Jim and I loved going to estate auctions and yard sales, filling our old farmhouse with antiques and collectibles. Jim collects President Lincoln memorabilia. I am happiest working in my flower beds! We have volunteered at the Habitat Store and were involved in Relay for Life. Our interest in Ancient Indian sites took us all over Ohio. However, a very significant site in the United States, is only 30 miles from us and is now a World Heritage Center! The most mysterious and fascinating site, my favorite, is even closer. We got involved with the Arc of Appalachia and were volunteers at the Highland Nature Sanctuary Museum previously known as the Seven Caves. We also maintained Barrett’s Rim trail, and it became a family project. It is close by and runs along the Rocky Fork Gorge with it’s limestone walls, caves and of course the wildflowers! My brother and his wife restored a Historical Performing Arts theater built in 1918 and my sister’s and I helped out in the Concession stand. Jim and I have a sweet tooth and love going the Amish bakery and it is almost sinful what we leave there with.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

What makes our rental unique is Hospitality, defined as “the frIendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers”. We are bursting with information about this diverse Valley. You can check in and we may never meet or I can meet with you and we can map out places of interest for day trips during your stay. You really are missing out if you have never been to Paint Valley.

Hope to hear from you!
Jim and Mary, Premier Hosts
