We ended up finding a hotel
Upon getting to the property around 11:30pm there wasn't any parking for our truck and trailer, even though I had confirmed with the management company that there was plenty of space. The management company said there was a vacant lot to the left of the building, there was a plot of grass but it had a 3+ foot drop off, there was no way we'd be able to get out if we did get in.
We walked in to the building, it's not super clearly marked on the outside where you should go, but the building had a distinct cigarette smell. Walk upstairs to the rental unit and at first everything seemed fine. As I went to inspect the bedrooms the first bedroom had white stains all over the comforter. The second bedroom I lifted the comforter and there was debris and hair on the sheets. Neither bedding set looked clean at all.
At this point with the location, parking issues, odor, and bedding problems we decided we'd be better suited at a hotel. I messaged the management company via the VRBO app, understandably it was near midnight by this point and I didn't expect an answer at that hour. The following day at 4pm I still hadn't heard anything back, I called VRBO customer service, they got in touch with the management company. The VRBO rep came back to my line and said the management company told them they'd already reached out to me and told me they were taking care of the issue and refunding our money. At that point I messaged the management company to confirm the refund as I still had no messages or calls from them. The company did get back to me and stated that was correct they would do the refund. The following day I got an email that the refund was done, as I checked the refund amount it was less than what we had paid, I responded to the message and reached out to VRBO again to figure out why the amounts were different. VRBO said the management company would need to fix it, they then called them back, they were told nothing could be fixed until Monday when they were back in the office. Later on I got a message from the management company saying they had refunded everything they can and that VRBO would need to credit the rest. So I call vrbo again then following day, after a 30 minute call I was told the VRBO billing department will be in contact with me in 24-48 to get the rest of the refund figured out. Thankfully within the next 6 hours I got another confirmation that the remaining amount was credited.
