This is really an amazing house; I've rented many places in southern utah, and this is definitely the place I'd return to first. The most exceptional thing is the location; the very last home before 40 miles of wilderness canyon along the Escalante river leading to the colorado river. We walked from the house to Phipps Arch which (apart from a river ford) was an easy and incredibly beautiful hike. Watching the sun rise on the canyon walls in the morning is something I won't forget. The house itself is very well appointed -- my 5 yo daughter loved the hidden bedrooms, and the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in (although there is no microwave, and our fruit did get a few mouse nibbles overnight). Hope to get a chance to return soon!
As the other reviewers have said, this is a fabulous place. Nothing beats the location: beautiful canyon, light constantly shifting on the opposite cliff wall, cottonwood trees fluttering in the breeze. The house is literally built within a cottonwood grove such that walls and the deck have been built around existing trees. The space is open and light filled, with windows framing views. The kitchen is the best equipped VRBO we've every stayed in. Even the knives are sharp! Working with Beverly was a breeze. Staying here was a fabulous escape from the busy world.
I didn't want to post a review, as I wanted to keep this house a secret. But it looks like the secret is out! Three of us spent 5 nights here as our base for exploring one of our favorite areas in Utah. After a day of adventure we were excited to get back to the house and cook a gourmet dinner and enjoy the gorgeous views of the canyon. And the dark skies made it ideal for night time star photography. Everything about the house was beautiful and we really appreciated the design elements. We didn't discover the 2nd loft for 3 days! If you are squeamish about crossing a shallow river in your car (especially during monsoon season) - this may not be the house for you. (The crossing actually has a concrete base to drive on.) But as long as Beverly and Doug continue to share this beautiful home with others, we will return again and again.
The property and home was beautiful. The canyon was so quiet too. There was a full moon during our visit, and it was really nice how it lit the whole canyon area. I was hoping for some more star gazing opportunities. They would be amazing depending on the weather.
We had a truck and had no problems getting across the creek, but we did hike the path from the main road just in case there was rain in the area. While staying there, we visited Capital Reef, Bryce, and Grand Staircase parks. Great hiking in all of them.
My one suggestion is on directions. After the neighbors house and their barn, there is one more house, and then go to the end of the road for the next one. Thanks Doug & Beverly :)
Two couples overnighted at the house, and it was definitely a hit with all. One of the guests is a builder and continually marveled at the beautiful construction and design of the house. As we drove down the secluded lane to the house our excitement grew as we entered the lush greenery of the canyon. It was like taking a deep relaxing breath after a stressful day. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well appointed and the home clean and well cared for. Can we say enough about the view? Dinner on the deck was delightful as twilight descended on the canyon. We woke to sun bathing the red rock and cool, fragrant morning air. The owners were more than accommodating as we communicated about payment etc. Only wish we'd had more time to talk to Doug about the house he built. Want to get away and relax? This is the perfect place to wind down, or put your feet up before you take off on an adventure. Loved every minute!
We have been renting homes on VRBO for several years. This home was definitely the best. We loved this calm and remote place in the midst of the nature. We have met Doug who is the builder and owner of the house and learned about all the efforts they have made to turn this piece of land into a vacation home. The house has an exceptional architecture with many nice details and design features. You find everything you need.
Beverly and Doug are both very nice and did their best to make our stay a positive experience.
We can definitely recommend this home.
Thank you very much
