## Emplacement
Listed among the most beautiful villages of France, Ars-en-Ré is located in the Charente-Maritime region of France. Located at the eastern end of the Ile de Ré, it is part of the district of La Rochelle, and has been listed as a "Villages de pierres et d'eau", a label organized by the Conseil Général.Giving a direct view of the Atlantic Ocean, the commune of Ars-en-Ré is today mainly turned towards seaside and nature tourism. Born in the 11th century from the salt marshes, it was a very important port during the salt era, until the 20th century. Today still, about sixty people exploit this salt production. Visitors to the island appreciate the calm of Ars-en-Ré, as well as its exceptional architectural heritage, which has earned it a place among the most beautiful villages in the country. Normally calm, the island town becomes more animated during the summer season. The local gastronomy also attracts many visitors eager to discover the pineau, the potatoes or the fleur de sel.
