Kommen wieder!

Very serene setting. This is a true Main "camp" with lots of rustic character.

Great camp. Right on water. Owner who lives next door is very friendly and attentive to your needs. Fishing and swimming was great. Sitting in rockers on screen room porch sipppjng coffee was worth the trip.

Beautiful, quiet, rustic. You won't want to leave.

  • 5 von 5

This was our family of four's fifth year spending two weeks at Camp Soliel. We love everything about it! George's Pond is beautiful and the perfect place to swim, paddle and fish. Kids will LOVE the diving board in the middle of the lake. Sunsets from the dock are a very special part of the day. You are guaranteed to see loons, osprey and bald eagles. If you like to fish, you'll catch bass, silver perch and pumpkin seed. There are lake trout here as well.

Dana is a wonderful host and great company but respectful of his guest's privacy. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Sheets, towels (even beach towels) and a fully stocked kitchen. Keep in mind that the place is rustic (but well kept and clean). Dana is very accommodating, willing to meet the needs of his guests and generous with the use of his kayaks.

It is close to Acadia and some really great hikes if you can tear yourself away from the lake. The Schoodic Peninsula is also a short drive - Acadia National Park without the crowds! Franklin is a quiet, rural town with many little-known treasures close by. It's an easy drive into Ellsworth for the items that can't be found at the Trading Post in Franklin (which has many necessities).

Our kids are 10 & 12 and have looked forward to coming here for the past five years!

camp Soleil

  • 4 von 5

We just returned from our wonderful vacation in Maine. We were fortunate enough to find Camp Soleil un VRBO. We have never stayed in a rental that was as well stocked as this one. Yes, the cabin is rustic but that is what we were looking for and the weekly price was more than reasonable. The screened porch was a wonderful place to sit and watch the wild life, sunrises and sunsets. One early morning, as we were on the porch with our coffee, a bald eagle flew into the tree directly in front of us. We had never seen one up close before and felt very lucky to be there at the right moment. We loved kayaking on the pond and listening to the loons at night. On a rainy evening I couldn't get the DVD player to work (my own ineptitude!) so the owner came over and set it up for us. He was extremely responsive to our needs and checked in to make sure everything was all right. We hope to be back to Camp Soleil again and have recommended it to our friends. Thank you, Dana, for a great experience. Kathleen and Tim. Wellesley MA

We were a little surprised...

  • 3 von 5

When we arrived, we were a little surprised at how rustic this cabin is and at the sub-standard of clean we are used to. Let me explain. There were crumbs on the counters, hair on the stove, an actual piece of bread was in the silverware drawer; we could tell a mop had been taken to the perimeter of the cabin, but our feet were really sandy. We looked under the throw rugs and (no exaggeration) there was a pile of sand under each rug. This grossed us out because we knew that other dogs and families had stayed here, and if no one is sweeping under a throw rug...then, well, yuck. Our bedding on the downstairs bed was still wet from its washing, the futon was cracked and one of the rocking chairs cover on the porch was ripped. In addition, there were cob webs everywhere. Also, the neighbors next door were having a huge party and blasting country music. (Their little dog pooped right by the cabin, daily too). Luckily there were cleaning products under the sink in the kitchen so we spent the first night cleaning all the surfaces in the cabin. We removed the rugs and hung 2 of them outside and the other we put on the porch. Then we called and emailed the owner. We were feeling pretty tired and frustrated at this point, but with no other place to go, we headed to bed. The next day we decided to begin our adventures and headed to Schoodic to hike and read. While we were away, the owner contacted us several times. He left us a message stating that he cleaned the cabin, didn't know how it got dirty, he would give us our money back if we wanted to leave and he would charge us for one nights stay. He stated that no one had ever mentioned any of this before, oh and he is actually the other neighbor (not the party animals). He did explain that we can use his dock, kayaks, etc. We felt a little weird after that. I guess we were hoping he would understand our frustration, and maybe even check up on us. He did come back to switch out the broken futon with a new, sturdy one. Finally, midweek we decided to go down to the dock for a look and we met the owner. He was very cordial and gave me some pointers on where to go, etc.

We had a good time listening to the loons, seeing the eagles, watching the sunsets, swimming and kayaking and sightseeing, but we were hoping to be a bit more comfy in our landing pad at night. The perks of this cabin are the sunsets, screened porch, use of the kayaks, and listening to the loons. It seems others have loved it here.

Vermieter-Kommentar: It is incredible to us how spiteful a person could be after apologizing for reacting so poorly to us about the camp. We got home at 1045 pm and there wasn't a huge party going on. The neighbors have always been very respectful and have never been loud or carry on beyond 10 pm. Also, they normally are only there on Saturday nights and the rest of the week are at their home in Bar Harbor. The camp is always vacuumed and then mopped. All linens are washed and dried. Throwing the 4x8 and 3x6 rugs outside was quite bazaar and what was under the rugs was carpet fresh. We stand behind our quality and service to our tenants. We gave you the option to leave with a refund, but in your words you "overreacted" and stayed. It is evident in our minds that you were looking for a freebie. If anyone looks at our previous responses and future responses they can undoubtedly see that your response was out of ones own self image and unhappiness.

Rustic charm with all you need!

  • 5 von 5

Awesome accommodations for my family of 5 and our dog. We felt at home right away. Very private, very relaxed. Extremely cordial host! The guest book was a great inspiration to plan our outings, and the owner filled in the blanks for any other questions. The pizza place in town was great, and the hiking in Acadia was remarkable. Cabin porch view made for a relaxing environment. Use of 4 kayaks and life vest sizes for the kids, too, was very gracious. Take the scenic flight around Acadia if you get a chance.
