Onaledge Historic Lodge-- Retreat in Manitou Springs

Ready for a family gathering or a group retreat? Need an exquisite place to stay while you host an intimate (30 people or less) event? Onaledge Historic Lodge in Manitou Springs might just be your special place! Onaledge is an architectural gem of The Arts & Crafts era located 1/2 a mile from downtown Manitou Springs and Garden of The Gods.

Onaledge sleeps 20 & features its own "Manitou InnClimb", a 10-person hot tub, fully equipped kitchen, dining hall, 8 bedrooms, 5 baths, wrap-around deck, stunning views & on the campus of the Sun Mountain Center/Smokebrush Foundation. Robust internet. Parking for 6-8 vehicles w/ spillover parking available (fee). Your perfect connection destination! Inquire here or at White Yarrow Vacation Rentals about intimate, DIY events at the Lodge and about additional lodging on campus.

Craftsmen constructed Onaledge historic lodge in 1912. Perched in the geographical center of Manitou Springs, easily accessible from Highway 24 and just 10 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Onaledge has been retrofitted for the modern traveler, but maintains its old-world charm.

Onaledge is one of three lodges located on the bucolic campus of the Smokebrush Foundation, a non-profit organization that produces and presents innovative artistic experiences that foster creativity and collaboration in the Southern Colorado community. The Foundation also operates Smokebrush Farm, which maintains Onaledge's grounds and grows food and rears animals on the grounds nearby.

The Onaledge Historic Lodge building itself is a nationally recognized Arts and Craft era architectural masterpiece. Onaledge's Tudor-style exterior was made from Manitou Greenstone and stucco. The first floor interior features large, wood-floored rooms, stone hearths, decorative metal features, cathedral ceilings and wooden trusses that line the ceiling in visually satisfying arches. Stone patios and decking surround the lodge on three sides, along with fantastic views of the Rocky Mountains and surrounding tree-, rock- and ledge-scapes, make the Lodge an ideal space for family and other group gatherings and for intimate events. Read below for more information on special events at Onaledge.

The North exterior of Onaledge lodge features a large entertaining deck with tables, chairs and an eight-person hot tub, all overlooking several magnificent greenstone terraces built during the 1930s (reportedly at a cost of over $1M) on the grounds' North ridge. These terraces and ringed by steps we playfully refer to as "the Manitou Inn Climb", which is Onaledge's mini-version of the famous Manitou Incline. Unlike the Manitou Incline, though, the Inn Climb is a private venue, and no reservations are needed to hike it. Do the Manitou InnClimb loop 17 times, and you will have hiked the Manitou Incline equivalent, right in your own backyard! The terraces are also a great place to host a wedding, and for an additional fee, we offer use of the terraces to guests seeking to host a wedding there.

Back deck and Hot Tub. Onaledge's back deck is accessible via the kitchen, the buffet room, and the dining room. The deck normally seats 10 to 16 guests and contains a hot tub that seats 10.

Special Events. With permission from Lodge management, and for an additional fee, guests can also host intimate, DIY-style events, retreats, weddings at Onaledge Historic Lodge. Make an inquiry through this booking platform for details. For gatherings and events of 30 or more people, we recommend you contact The Craftwood Inn next door to Onaledge Historic Lodge, which is a professional, full-service wedding and other events venue.

1) All Onaledge Historic Lodge guests must sign a liability waiver before entering the premises.

2) No events or parties involving people not staying at the Lodge without written permission from Lodge Management. Events with 30 total attendees or fewer are generally allowed with payment of the $750 event fee ($250 of which is a fully refundable deposit).

3) No pets (with the exception of licensed service dogs providing assistance to those with disabilities in compliance with ADA guidelines)

4) No smoking or use of open flames (e.g. candles, actual fires in fireplaces, fires in outdoor pits)

5) Quiet Hours after 10 p.m.

6) No glassware or beverages in the hot tub. No unsupervised minors in the hot tub

7) No playing in fountains

8) Do not block the fire lane by parking cars there. Use fire escapes in EMERGENCIES ONLY

PREFERENCES:

Remove shoes inside by entry door.

Walk with caution along our pathways or terraces. We recommend that you not run or climb on terraces or sculptures and fountain edges.

Ensure that the hot tub cover is fastened when not in use.

Do not hang wet towels on any wooden surfaces.

Utilize placemats, trivets and/or coasters at the dining tables.

Respect the property and entertainment extras (house speaker, lights, television, puppets, etc.).

No glasses, liquids or bodily fluids are allowed in the hot tub. We will charge a $275 fee should a special cleaning of the tub be necessary after your visit. Towels for the tub are in the deckbox nearby. Towel off before going back into the Lodge via the buffet room. Turn the temperature of the tub down to 95 degrees and cover the tub and latch down the cover after every use to keep the tub free of debris.

Quiet Hours:
Onaledge is on the grounds of the Smokebrush Foundation campus (an arts and education non-profit) with neighbors on all sides of our property. In consideration of local noise ordinances and good neighbor policy, “quiet” hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily.

Smoking/Vaping/Tobacco/Cannabis/Open Flames:
In order to keep our historic home clean and safe, all smoking and vaping of any substances must be outside and 20 feet away from the Lodge. For your safety, the use of candles and other open flame devices are
prohibited. In addition to being asked to leave without refund of any charges or deposits, management will assess a fee to clean, repair, and/or replace anything damaged or smoke contaminated.

Alcohol:
The use of alcohol is allowed at Onaledge, and guests 21+ can bring their own alcoholic beverages onto the property. Mindful and moderate consumption is expected and appreciated. Please honor public spaces and quiet hours of 10pm-8am. Please note that alcohol can have varying effects on individuals at this altitude.

Grounds:
Please walk with caution along our pathways and terraces, most of which are hewn from rock and are thus uneven. We recommend that you not run or climb on terraces or sculptures and fountain edges.

You may seen Smokebrush farming, landscaping and maintenance staff working the grounds or entering the Lodge basement from the outside during your stay. They will do their best to give you a wide berth and not intrude on your group. Don’t hesitate to call us or write us on your vacation rental booking platform with any maintenance or housekeeping needs you may have during your stay.

Guests should not go beyond the West chainlink fence boundaries of the property to the Craftwood Inn without the Inn's permission.

Guests may not venture beyond the property line at the top of the Manitou Inn Climb/Terraces and to the West, as this is private property.

Guests may visit the animal enclosure area North and East of the Inn Climb (via the steps) anytime; however, please do not enter the animals' enclosures.

Relaxing Corporate Leadership Retreat
We loved our stay during our corporate leadership retreat. The house was equipped to handle a large group and they had thought of everything we might need! The grounds were beautiful with deer grazing throughout. We loved hiking up the terraced gardens to visit the farm animals each morning. Thank you all for an amazing stay!

Charming House with Amazing Backyard
The communication with Chris and Kat was amazing! We discussed what we needed and they were very clear on what was included in the house. Everything we needed for our group was available. The charming house is over 100 years old, and as such has some quirks, but it’s tastefully done and a wonderful place to gather with family. The bedroom with the twin beds and puppet show stage was a hit with the kids! We enjoyed the view from the tables & chairs on the terrace patio in the backyard with a (plastic) glass of wine and charcuterie - with a view of Pike’s Peak! All accommodations were as expected, with the exception of a different refrigerator that what is pictured. Overall we definitely recommend Onaledge and hope to come back!
