Casa Mariposa, the 'butterfly house,' can accommodate your entire family with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms as well as its own private pool, washer/dryer, and 2-car garage. This stunning home is centrally located within Merida's historic center, just a few blocks away Santiago Park with its many restaurants featuring local food, art galleries, and shopping. With all of the modern conveniences and elegant design that you expect from Burro y Flauta, it's the perfect place for the family to enjoy.

Situated on a quiet street in Merida's memorable Santiago neighborhood, Casa Mariposa is an architectural marvel with great, iron butterfly wings surrounding its private patio and pool. Renovated an acclaimed local architect, this house will take your breath away as you walk through its entry way.

Casa Mariposa has a beautiful and open flow all the way through the property with views onto its picturesque patio and pool from every room in the house. On the first floor, there is an open concept kitchen, living, and dining area with large sliding glass doors to take in the lovely pool area. The space is tastefully decorated with furniture and art made by local Merida artists. The house has a light and open feel with numerous skylights for ventilation to help keep things cool, as well as mini splits in all of the bedrooms and living room.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need if you want to cook. Purified water is provided, as well as coffee. The refrigerator has ice made from purified water as well. We provide you with basic kitchen equipment and appliances including a toaster and coffee machine so that you can fuel up with a satisfying breakfast to start your day. Coffee, creamer and sugar is provided -- no need to run to the nearest mini-mart for these basics.

The kitchen leads on to the patio with a sitting area where you can find BBQ for those days when you want to grill rather than sampling one of Merida’s fantastic restaurants. The patio is completely enclosed by high walls for privacy and security so that you can swim and enjoy the house with peace of mind.

The home has a total of 5 separate bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, three of which are located on the ground floor and two upstairs. Each bedroom has a light and airy feeling with colorful iron bed designs inspired by the wings of a butterfly. The three bedrooms on the ground floor have their own built in desks in case you need to get some work done on your trip. Every bedroom has large built in closets for storage.

On the ground floor, there is a master bedroom with a king bed located just near the entry way with an ensuite bathroom. This bathroom is also accessible from the pool area so that you have a convenient bathroom to use while swimming. Just past the living area to the back of the property, there are two more bedrooms connected by an ensuite bathroom. We call this the ‘family suite’ as one of its bedrooms contains a king bed and the other two twin beds better suited for kids.

The master bedroom upstairs also has an ensuite bathroom with a gorgeous view of the pool and patio area in a private sun porch. The upstairs guest room is very spacious and includes bunk beds for the kids as well as an extra day bed.

The house features custom made furniture from Yucatan Custom Furniture, furniture and lighting from Takto as well as antiques and artwork made by Merida’s local artists.

All of our guests are welcome to the entirety of the home and have access to use anything on the property including the kitchen, pool, and any other amenities. The house is not shared with any other occupants or pets, so you can enjoy privacy during your stay.

Check-in & Check-out:

Check in is available after 3pm. Check out is before 11am.

Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability at the sole discretion of the host.

Early check-in availability is determined on the day of arrival and is a free courtesy to our guests.

If you need a late check-out, then we might be able to permit it depending on the needs of our next guest, but we will charge a late check-out fee.

General Rules:

1. To book this space, you must be at least 21 years of age.

2. The name on the reservation must match the person staying in the house. To verify, we may require a photo of ID of all people entering the property.

3. Quiet hours are observed from 10pm to 8am on the interior and exterior of the property. The purpose of quiet hours is to maintain a quiet and comfortable environment for all guests and neighbors.

4. No smoking inside the space. If a guest is found smoking or evidence of smoking is found after check-out there is a $500 USD fine.
You may smoke on the exterior patios granted you use the provided ash trays.

5. Please only flush toilet paper down the toilet.

6. An excessive cleaning fee of a minimum of $75 USD will apply to any reservation which caused excessive cleaning services to be rendered.

7. Guests are responsible for any breakage or damage to the property.

Fees:

- The fee for overnight visitors above a total of 10 guests is $300 pesos per person per night. Any additional guests require prior approval from the host.

- One small (under 15kg) pet is welcome, but the guest is responsible for all damage caused by their pets. An extra pet fee of USD$75 will be charged.

- Electricity is included for stays of 2 weeks or less; and for stays of longer than 2 weeks, no electricity is charged unless the usage greater is USD$3 a day for the 1BR or 2BR homes, or USD$5 a day for the larger homes.

- Lost key or electric key fob will result in a US$20 charge. Lost garage door device will result in a US$200 charge.

- We are not responsible for any left items after check-out. If we do have to ship an item, there is a minimum of $50 (depending on the size of the items) shipping fee by host plus the shipping company cost to ship the item. It may take up to 14 days before we can ship the items.

Additional notes:

In order to keep the pool clean and maintained during your stay and for future guests, our pool staff is scheduled to service the pool twice per week. The total service should take 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Merida is a hot and humid climate, and this climate tends to host insects. As a result, you may see insects in the house. We do monthly extermination to try to prevent problems but it's not a perfect solution. We also supply bug spray and citronella candles to assist.

We are not responsible for any items brought into or left at the house. If you believe that you left something in the house after your departure, then please let us know. We will verify whether we have the item and share our office address so that you may pick it up. We will store any such items in our ‘Lost and Found’ located in our office for 30 days. If no one has come to claim those items within the 30 days, then we will dispose of it.

Furniture and décor from pictures may differ. We are always upgrading and improving the look and feel of our property for the comfort and pleasure of our guests.
