Rivulet views, 19th-century charm, and rustic comfort await you in this rubble stone cottage situated on Lisdillon’s historic sheep farm and vineyard.
Settle in for a cosy weekend away; stroll on the private beaches, try your luck fishing, or sip on a glass (or two) of our award-winning wine.
It’s the perfect base to explore Tasmania's scenic East Coast, such as Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park (1hr drive) and Maria Island ferry (25 min drive).
Head to @lisdillon_estate for more.
Rich with history, surrounded by native land and brimming with cosy, old-world appeal. Step back in time at The Blacksmith’s Cottage.
Built by convicts in the early to mid-1800s, this two-storey rubble stone cottage is the ultimate weekend getaway. Imagine as you wake up to sprawling rivulet views from your bedroom, then at night curl up by the fire with a glass of pinot noir.
Wander to Lisdillon’s 5km private coastline of three pristine beaches with just a few minutes walk or bask in the cottage’s quaint garden.
Deck & cottage gardens
Open the double doors to a large deck overlooking the estate, perfect for lounging with a glass of sauvignon blanc in hand.
Outdoor dining & barbeque
Watch the sun set over the historic sheep farm and estate while you grill something delicious on the deck barbeque.
Two bedrooms
Make yourself at home in these spacious rooms—one with two singles, the other with a queen bed waiting for you to jump in.
Open-plan dining & living
Enjoy a selection of board games, books, literature on Lisdillon’s history, or switch on the telly as you relax next to the crackling wood fire.
Separate modern kitchen
Everything you need for your morning coffee and tea, or to cook up a storm with local ingredients you can pick up on a drive to Coles Bay.
Modern bathroom
Featuring garden views, shower, and a range of natural products available for you to use.
Private beach
Lisdillon Estate is one of the few lucky places in the world that has its very own private beach. Lisdillon's property extends to low tide mark so its boundaries grow bigger and smaller every second! Even though it is private and most of the time there won't be another person in sight you will occasionally come across other guests and people who rent shacks on the farm.
Private river
Take a moment to breathe and unwind on a quick stroll to the nearby river.
A fisherman’s haven
Trot down to the seafront of the Lisdillon Estate or rivulet and enjoy all the aquatic life on offer. We ask that all fish caught in the river and estuary are on a strictly catch and release basis (unless you are going to eat them) in order to preserve the environment of the river and estuary. Please only use lures, not bait hooks.
The sea out the front of our property offers bay flathead, salmon, squid cod, crayfish, and so much more. In the Lisdillon Rivulet, you’ll also find bream, oysters, brown trout, native galaxia and many other creatures.
- Private river with plenty of fish to catch (and release)
- Private beaches (while the 5km coastline is owned by the Lisdillon Estate, you may see a few other guests from time to time)
- If you have a boat you can take it out to sea in front of our property
You may not necessarily see us as we are quite busy on the farm, but we are quick to respond to any queries. Please message us if you have any questions or would like to purchase wine.
Lisdillon is a 6000-acre working sheep farm and vineyard. The estate includes three secluded beaches as well as the reef off the main beach and a rivulet and estuary. Featuring unrivalled views of The Hazzards, Freycinet National Park, and Maria Island.
Back in the day (1830), the land once housed a small but thriving township. The sheep farm,19th-century cottages and sprawling native land are living reminders of Lisdillon’s rich history. Now home to an award-winning vineyard and boutique accommodation, Lisdillon is the perfect balance of past and present Tasmania.
Make the most of the expansive lands by walking, swimming, fishing or bringing your kayaks and exploring the river and coastline.
Or if you fancy a venture beyond the estate, eat at one of the local cafes or restaurants in Swansea, Triabunna or Orford (all within half an hour's drive). The award-winning restaurant Piermont is only a ten-minute drive. Other local adventures include whale watching, bike riding, quad bike touring, and more.
All in all, Lisdillon is the perfect escape for individual travellers, couples, families, or friends. In fact, many of our guests describe Lisdillon as one of the most beautiful places they have seen on their visit to Australia.
Though there is a bus, it is not always convenient and we do recommend that you drive yourselves.
Water consumption:
We switch between the river and tank water, although both are filtered and safe to drink, some people still prefer to bring their own.
You are welcome to use the kitchen and cooking supplies (we will provide a more detailed list after booking). We advise guests to do their main grocery shopping before they get here as we are located 21km from the nearest town.
Please note: Due to the steep staircase, this house is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
