Whakaroa Retreat – Spacious Garden Getaway Near Taupo

Welcome to Whakaroa Retreat, a peaceful and private countryside escape just 14km from Taupo. Set among beautifully landscaped gardens, this spacious two-level home is ideal for families, friend groups, or anyone looking to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the natural beauty of the central North Island.

The retreat comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests across five well-appointed bedrooms, spread over two levels. With two full bathrooms, one on each floor and an additional guest toilet, there’s plenty of space and convenience for everyone.

Inside, the home offers two generous living areas, providing plenty of room for both quiet moments and shared experiences. A light-filled sunroom, set up for dining, looks out over the garden and is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a shared family meal. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home.

Outside, the property is surrounded by lush, established gardens that create a sense of peace and privacy. There are several outdoor seating areas, ideal for relaxing with a book, enjoying a glass of wine, or watching the kids explore the grounds.

No matter the season, you`ll stay cosy and comfortable with two woodburner fireplaces and a heat pump providing warmth throughout the home. Linen and Wi-Fi are included, so you can settle in and enjoy your stay with ease.

Although Whakaroa Retreat feels like a true rural getaway, it’s only a 15-minute drive to the centre of Taupo. Guests can easily access Lake Taupo’s swimming, kayaking, and boating spots, visit the stunning Huka Falls, soak in nearby thermal pools, or explore one of the region’s many walking and cycling trails. Taupo also offers great cafes, restaurants, and local shops. For day trips, the Tongariro National Park and Orakei Korako Geothermal Park are both within easy reach.

Please note, pets are not permitted as the property is surrounded by working farms and livestock.

When making a booking request please include information on the age range of the guests intending to stay and your plans for while you are in Taupō.

We have a strict no large group or parties policy, disruption to the neighbours will not be tolerated. If we are notified of parties or illegal activity you will be evicted.

You will be required to complete a check in form prior to arrival (excluding identity verified, Airbnb accounts) which will include a copy of your ID and the details of all guests intending to stay at the property. Failure to complete this form will result in the booking being cancelled.

The guest named on the booking is responsible for the property for the duration of the stay and must take all reasonable care of the house. For breakages or damages be aware that you will be charged for the repair or replacement plus a 10% handling fee. It`s your responsibility to familiarise yourself with potential hazards or situations during the stay and take appropriate care or actions if needed.

All properties must be left reasonably clean and tidy, ensuring all furniture and appliances are returned to where they were. A general service clean is included, but if the property requires extra cleaning, you could be charged an additional $50.00 per hour, this includes BBQ’s, excess rubbish, soiled linen and odour removal.

All bookings are accepted on the basis that you have read, understand, and agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions and House Rules.
