The Neighborhood:
We acknowledge that this home sits on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. The Eora Nation is one of the largest Aboriginal nations in Australia, and their traditional lands encompass the area that is now known as Sydney, including Annandale. The Gadigal people have a deep connection to the land and have lived in the Sydney region for tens of thousands of years.
Today, the Gadigal people continue to maintain their cultural traditions and connections to the land, and work to preserve and protect their cultural heritage. Visitors to Annandale can learn more about the traditional owners of the land and their history through a range of educational and cultural programs, including guided tours, exhibitions, and events organised by local Aboriginal organisations and community groups.
Annandale has a rich colonial history that dates back to the early 1800s. The suburb was named after Annandale House, a grand mansion that was built by George Johnston, a former military officer and one of the earliest settlers in the Sydney region. The house was named after the town of Annan in Scotland, where Johnston was born.
There are many more cafes and restaurants in Annandale and the surrounding suburbs of Rozelle, Leichhardt, Balmain and Glebe so you will have plenty of options to choose from during your stay. These include Tramsheds, Cornersmith Cafe & Picklery, Black Toast Café, Vinery Foods, The Annandale and The North Annandale Hotels, The Green Lion, Revolver Café and One Ford Street to name but a few!
