Kelly sent me a booking request on June 24th for 2 guests and we were happy to accept her booking for a short stay in Maine while she visited her daughter who went to College nearby as she stated in her request. As our listing states in detail Stay A While has one bedroom and one pull out couch in the living room and it is set up for 2 guests only and that guests need to register for additional guests beyond 2 at the time of booking so that we may set up the property for additional bedding & towels to accommodate all guests staying with us as well as add the appropriate fee for additional bedding, towels and guests up to 4. She reached out to me about fireworks nearby and I was happy to let her know what displays were happening over the fourth so she could attend one nearby. I reached out to her prior to check in to let her know the door would be open and the key would be on the table so everything was all set for her and her husband’s arrival and let her know the phone number she could call or text after arrival if she needed anything. At dinner that evening I got a message from her stating that they expected more than the one bedroom and pullout couch in the living room. I looked at her request for 2 guests she requested for booking and stated I was confused as she only booked for 2 guests not asking for additional guests or set ups for additional guests in her booking request and that in my listing details the property was described in detail for any guests looking to book with the property. After listening to her and a man, I assume her husband complain about my Internet code on the refrigerator and my pictures on the sight I offered Kelly a full refund and said you did not let us know you had more than 2 guests when you booked and paid for your stay but I can offer you a full refund if you are unhappy and you can find another listing that suits more than the 2 guests you registered for. She stated that no they would make due with Stay A While. In the 40 yrs I have managed rental properties I had never had anyone complain more than this couple did and they had just arrived. They had also complained about the way the bedroom and pullout couch were listed on VRBO and I did say I would check into this as well. As this couple had only paid for 2 people at the time of their booking and did not want a full refund they did have 4 guests at the property and did use the pull out couch and all amenities on the property and were not charged for any additional people during their stay. I continued to respond to any questions during their stay and help Kelly during her questions about the wildlife in the fields and had no indication from them that they felt they deserved or wanted a full refund from VRBO during their stay after they were offered a full refund on arrival and refused it and 4 people used all amenities during their stay and they were looking for a free of charge 4 day wknd. It is very disappointing to us they used everything on the property and took advantage of not registering for the number of guests in their reservation and party and as we worked with them and communicated and wished them a safe trip home they did not have the decency to communicate they wanted a free 4 day wknd from us. VRBO called and I explained in detail they registered for 2 people and paid for 2 people and were not charged for additional guests and used all property amenities and were offered a full refund upon arrival which they refused that this matter would of been addressed if they were honest in their reservation request. In this case there really was nothing more that we could offer whereas Kelly only registered for 2 guests and did not discuss any additional guests would be staying there as is stated in detail in the listing and inside the property under our welcome page. I truly feel this guest was looking for a free stay and that they were trying to find reasons why they should not pay for their stay at this new property. We have had all excellent reviews and communication at this property. As I am sorry they feel the way they do but their request for 2 people was very deceiving and do not feel any other discount is due at this time besides the free additional persons fees they did not pay for nor get charged for nor reserve for.
