The location for this rental was perfect for our stay as it was walking distance to family. The views are fantastic, the beds were comfortable, and the pool/patio were nice. The photos and descriptions of the place were aligned with our experience.

We stayed here for our son's graduation from SDSU. Entire property was very clean and as described. We did not use the pool itself, but we sat poolside in the afternoons. The deck at the front of the house was a good area for morning coffee and/or napping! Views from this deck are gorgeous!The kitchen seemed a bit dated and the cabinets a bit worn, but everything we needed was available and worked fine.The front steps can be a bit tricky if one is carrying bags or bringing up a suitcase, so taking care as you go up/down is important. If you have an elderly person traveling with you, you'll want to be near them.There are two other houses next to this property, but we rarely saw the the neighbors. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, as advertised.No problem with contacting the property manager with questions. Great place with restaurants and grocery stores nearby.We'd definitely stay here again!

Very nice property. There are stairs to enter the home and driveway is steep but that is to be expected in the hills. Location was perfect, central to everything we wanted to do.

We found this house to be a great central location in a very nice area. There were great restaurants and a grocery store very close by and convenient. Great communication with owner/property manager. We loved this place and would stay again.

Wonderful place

Our family had a wonderful stay in La Mesa as a base for a weeks vacation in the San Diego area - perfectly situated and well connected, the house is a haven of tranquility. The facilities are excellent and we had everything we needed for the 4 of us, including 2 under 5 year olds. Host was on hand for any questions we had and we appreciated easy contact and friendliness.

House was as described and pictured. Beautiful views from deck and inside the home. Pool and front deck were great outside space. Wifi worked well. We were informed 2 weeks before our stay (when it was too late to cancel) that there would be someone else staying on the property and that I had limited time to use the laundry facilities. The person staying on the property was underneath the house, so I felt like we needed to be quiet and not fully use the house as we would if no one else was there. I was very shocked and felt like it changed the over all feel of the stay. We specifically choose to stay in entire houses, because we do not want to share and we were forced to share. We did not receive the code to the door and had to scramble last minute to figure that out. The host was out of the country (her problem, not mine) so communicating was difficult because of the time difference (again, not my problem). The kitchen was not great. The sink was dirty and had the most random things in the cupboards. Nothing made sense and everything felt old, dirty and in need of updating. The "trundle" bed in one of the rooms was actually a cot and very uncomfortable. The satin sheets on the queen bed were awful, but there was no other choice in the closets to change them. The view was the only satisfying thing! The host should be more transparent about her "rules" and if someone else will be on the property. I was very shocked and disappointed.

Our family vacation was highlighted by this property. It offered a comfortable environment that was a wonderful place to call home for the week. The views that this home had to offer were unmatched. The location was near the top of the summit, but the view made the trek worth it for us. The home had character and style in keeping with classic construction. The amenities provided with the stay were all included as stated. The communication with the homeowners was exceptional and they were very easy to talk to. Response was quick and kind. *This rating for cleanliness has no bearing to the homeowners attention to the property, but their hired cleaners in which has been addressed very professionally by the owners. We hope to return again someday. Thank you to K and family for a wonderful place to stay.

San Diego Hills Vacation

Mostly good. The place was as pictured and the pool was great. We were a family of 5 and spend a great deal of time either by the pool or on the deck. The pools wasn't heated but frankly we were there in July and it was perfect temperature. The views are spectacular from the deck and a great place for us to just relax and unwind after a day of activities. The neighbors have roosters that are up crowing at 5 am so don't plan on sleeping in. Also the basics were provided but only 1 per person. For example 5 bath towels, 5 wash cloths, 5 beach towels, 5 table knifes, 6 forks, 3 cereal bowls. It would have been nice to have a couple extra. Also in the downstairs laundry it looked like the fire alarm had been removed and not yet replaced as the wires was hanging.The living room ceiling lights do not work which I reported right away to the owners. The answer was just use the wall lights as they are more efficient, so guessing they bulbs have just never been replaced. They also did not like us leaving the front porch lights on during the day but if we are leaving and don't plan on being back until dark I prefer to have the lights on for our return.We realize the roosters our out of control of the owners but it maybe should be mentioned, especially when the sun rises so early during the summer.

From the Owner: "Thank you for choosing our home. Following is in response to your 4-star review. Unheated pool was advertised. We were not aware of roosters. We have reported it to authorities. Roosters on properties are against the law. Comments re folks not being able to sleep were inappropriate. Towels: Standard verified by the company, and our experience staying at properties indicates that the norm is the same amount as the number of people staying at the property. Bowls: we provide a full set of China and silverware, including plastic utensils. Maybe could check other cabinets. Table was already pre-set for 4. Laundry: wires were capped off (safe), but not exactly in the area near the washer and dryer. Ceiling lights: purpose is to highlight pictures on walls, not to light a room. Front door: ceiling, keypad & doorbell lights. The latter 2 have sensors that light up brightly when someone is 20 ft. away. I was available & we texted many times, but above was not mentioned. Be well."

We had booked this place for seven months, only to discover upon boarding our flight that the owner’s son-in-law was occupying the basement. This was not mentioned in the listing, but it was added after I raised the issue. The property is a small, single-family home that doesn’t require a full-time caretaker. The listing now states that the caretaker is on the property, but there’s no such place. The person is in the basement, with the washer and dryer. I’m very disappointed with the entire property.
