Only 20 minutes from the city of Oporto, " Casa do Sobreiro" was recently renovated and managed to keep the original structure and architecture, which is typical of the Douro region.

An old mill for the production of olive oil was kept intact and is certainly an interesting feature of the Casa do Sobreiro.

In the surrounding area, the focus is on the beache and a small marina with restaurants where you can enjoy the best Portuguese gastronomy.
You can also explore the Douro river cruises.

Sehr schönes Haus am Berg mit Blick auf den Douro

Ideales Haus für große Familien oder kleine Gruppen. Riesig ist der Aufenthaltsraum und die ehemalige professionelle Küche. Manches ist in die Jahre gekommen... .Die Warmwasserversorgung ist mal zu optimieren.

Also erstmal bekommt man auch das was man auf den Fotos angeboten bekommt. Als wir ankamen war es oberflächlich sauber, oberflächlich speziell in der Küche, die einer Großküche gleicht. Alle Teller und Gläser hatten einen Fettfilm. Nachdem wir die Spülmaschine auseinander genommen und gereinigt hatten lief diese auch wieder. Zimmer und Bäder waren ok. Im Wohnzimmer wohnte eine Mäusefamilie im alten Inventar und zerlegte diese Abend für Abend, das interessierte den Eigentümer so gar nicht. Obwohl sehr viele alte Schätze in dem Haus schlummerten. Die Aussicht war absolut gigantisch. Das Haus toll gelegen. Im Obergeschoss gibt es im Flur und Bad Bewegungsmelder. Im Bad sehr unkomfortabel, nach 30 Sekunden ist das Licht aus wenn man auf dem Pott sitzt und abends im dunkeln eher suboptimal. Beim duschen muss man ständig winken. Also die Lösung ist keine Lösung. Es gibt etliche Schalter im Haus, wo man einfach nicht weiß wofür diese sind. Darüber gibt es Beleuchtung, die man mit keinem Schalter aus bekommt. Dazu gibt es viele kaputte Schalter, Drähte aus der Wand oder wenn man den Wasserkocher anstellt, springt der FI raus. Die Terrassentür, das Glas war gerissen. Im Essbereich gab es unter dem Fenster Schimmelflecken. Das elektronische Tor funktioniert wenn es Lust hat. Also grundsätzlich eine solide Bude, groß, geräumig, sauber bis auf die Mäuse aber es müsste dringend mal was renoviert werden. Der Vermieter ist sich keiner Schuld bewusst.

Spacious well equipped property with stunning views

This is a very spacious property with a pool overlooking The Douro River. The kitchen is well equipped and Luís, the host, and family were helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Thoroughly recommended!

We had a lovely stay in this huge house . Stunning views and in a good position for the village and a few restaurants. Well kitted out huge kitchen . The family were very nice and saw us into the house and were quick to reply to any requests for help . However the garden furniture needs updating as mentioned in previous reviews as do some of the beds . Two of the doubles were uncomfortably hard.

Can’t beat the view

We felt very lucky to have found your lovely farmhouse. The old olive press was very interesting. The house was huge, comfortable, the hosts were very welcoming and the location was perfect for us. It was close enough to Porto, Pinhao, Guimarães, and on a beautiful bend of the Douro River. Thank you so much!

Gorgeous home with views over river Douro :)

Had a lovey stay in this beautiful villa which had so much space and the most amazing views over the river. Pictures on site do not do home justice. Able to drive into Porto easily and was also advised that a bus runs hourly from bottom of road to Porto. Came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. Thanks for 'sharing' this home Luis!

Amazing property

As others have said, the photographs do not do this wonderful property justice. This is a very large house on large very private grounds. The views from the pool area and the house over the river Douro are spectacular and really do take your breath away. Luis is a fantastic host, who was there to meet us on check in with his lovely family. He gave us a tour of the house and explained everything. We had an issue with air con while there which was quickly dealt with and communication throughout our stay was very good, always on hand to answer questions and help with local information. The house itself is very well equipped and spacious. We had a fantastic time and would love to return sometime.

Spacious villa with amazing view

Luis was very helpful meeting us at the villa and giving us some local tips. Stunning view - we never tired of looking over the river. Property is much more spacious than it appears in the photos & very comfortable. A minor point but the outdoor furniture could do with a refresh, The house was clean and well cared for. It was great to have such a well equipped large kitchen with 2 ovens, would be perfect for a large group, Kids loved the pool so we spent most of the time at the villa & really enjoyed the outdoor space & drinks on the upper balcony. It’s not a particularly touristy area but we liked that, plus we had combined with a few days in nearby Porto first so were ready to relax. We did go to a local restaurant a couple of times and hired a big paddleboard at the river beach, Luis recommended a vineyard to us but we didn’t manage to visit, although we tried the wine which was lovely! Overall a great stay for a very reasonable price.

Amazing location

The house is in the most stunning location - better than the photos! It’s extremely spacious and pretty well equipped. It’s not the most modern and there are a few elements that could be updated, but that’s reflected in the price that you pay. The owner was really helpful and communicative, and shared suggestions for the local area. Would recommend!

Quelle déception !!!

Vue sur le Douro magnifique ! mais la maison n'est pas équipée pour des vacances en famille. La cuisine de 30m2 n’est prévue que pour des soirées avec grosses gamelles et marmites mais sans grille pain ni petits matériels. D’ailleurs pas de photos de cette cuisine dans l’annonce, sinon nous n’aurions pas loué ! Quand nous sommes arrivés l’eau de javel empestait la maison mais une fois dissipée l’odeur d’égout nous a écœuré le reste de la semaine. Les propriétaires sourds à nos demandes n’ont même pas daigné venir au rendez-vous du chek out à l’heure prévue !! Nous sommes partis après 3/4 d’heure d’attente et sans explications de leur part !!!

It really is all about the view!

Friends of ours rented this wonderful house about one year ago and that is when it caught my eye. We actually planned part of our trip around the house. It is about a half hour drive from Porto and about an hour and a half to Douro Valley. We made day trips to both areas no problem. Our arrival came after a busy and full day in Porto and we all just sighed in relief as we drove into the driveway. The house has a spectacular view of a bend in the Douro River. Watching it change from evening to night to morning was great. We all wished we hadn’t been so busy and could have spent more time relaxing there. We cooked in the well-supplied kitchen two out of three nights mostly so we could eat outside in peace and enjoy the view. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. We had a couple of issues we had to deal with but António was right on it and nothing was a big deal. I know some people want everything to be perfect but seriously the view makes up for any issues that may come up. Hope to stay again!!

Amazing house, view and location

The house was beautiful and the location perfect. We enjoyed being in the "country" and out of Porto central. The town of Melres is quaint, folks are very nice, and the view of the Douro River lovely. Recommend this house for couples, families and groups. Loved our experience.
