Offering a tranquil place to unplug, relax, and reconnect, Holbrook Farms Retreat is the ultimate Lakes Country getaway—AND your stay helps fund our 501(c)(3) non-profit which supports military families who have lost a loved one serving our country. The picturesque long driveway transports you to a private getaway on 47 acres and 2200 ft. of shoreline on peaceful Holbrook Lake, located just 10 miles south of Detroit Lakes. Nestled among the sugar maples and evergreens, this one-of-a-kind home sits on an old maple syrup farm, creating a scenic backdrop like few others. With just five homes on this environmental lake, experience solitude as you take in the sights and sounds of nature.

The hand-carved knotty alder front door greets you as you enter the great room which features a panoramic view of the property. The open concept kitchen-dining-living area offers a comfortable and spacious gathering space. The generously equipped kitchen with a large island and 14 dining chairs accommodates a large group. Cuddle up on the new living room sectional to your favorite movie on the 52” TV. The gas fireplace soars to the tongue and groove vaulted ceiling, adding warmth and ambiance on chilly nights.

Conveniently located off the kitchen, the French doors connect you to an outdoor oasis on the 800 sq. ft. deck where happy hour awaits. A gas grill is also provided for your use.

Expansive yet inviting, the first level offers several common spaces to gather, including the original cabin (now attached to the home) and five bedrooms that comfortably sleep 14 people.

Master bedroom with on-suite bath has a queen bed + twin daybed with trundle-- perfect for the little ones who wish to be close to Mom and Dad. The bathroom with steam shower is yours to enjoy along with the convenience of a huge closet and laundry room. A cozy sitting room with a piano sits outside the master bedroom. A walk-out patio overlooks the gentle slope to the lake. Roast a marshmallow over the patio fire pit and make a S’more!

Two additional bedrooms each have 2 single beds. Four single beds make up the large blue loft bedroom. The ‘slumber party’ feel makes it a favorite for kids and adults alike! Relax and unwind in the attached bathroom with a jetted tub, shower, and custom-built sauna.

A large 29' x 15' room overlooking the lakeside grounds offers the ideal space for a business meeting, scrapbooking retreat, yoga/ exercise, or gathering around the gas fireplace.

The original cabin (now attached to the home) completes this one-of-a-kind property and provides a private retreat for two. Oil lanterns, wood beams, and finishing elements reflective of their time marry walls lined with knotty pine and the original stone wood burning fireplace. Break out a board game or curl up to a great book from the cabin library. The cabin also features an additional full kitchen, dining-living room, laundry room, and ¾ bath.

Recreational activities await you year-round. Take a ride in the kayak or paddle boat (provided), or drop a fishing line in the water as you relax on your private dock and beach. Holbrook Lake sits down in a bowl out of the wind, creating ideal water conditions, so bring your paddle board! Explore the property and take a stroll on the mile of groomed trails. Drop your boat in one of the area's best fishing and recreational lakes located just down the road.

In frosty weather go sledding down the hill; trek across the lake on your cross-country skis or snowshoes. Warm up to a detoxifying sauna, a steam shower, or curl up next to the fireplace.

We also invite you to relax, rejuvenate, and unwind with a soothing massage during your stay. We’ve partnered with a talented certified massage therapist who will travel to Holbrook Farms (pre-booking required). Her healing hands are a gift to the military veteran widows when they attend our Survivors of Heroes Retreat at Holbrook Farms; Noreen has graciously donated countless hours of massage for four seasons and counting. From relaxing to therapeutic, massage is the perfect complement to your getaway!

OUR MISSION
After grieving the loss of several friends who died serving our country, we felt called upon to give back to those families who made the ultimate sacrifice and decided to convert Holbrook Farms into a peaceful, healing retreat. In 2014, Holbrook Farms welcomed its first group of military survivors; Through the efforts of numerous volunteers, we continue to host several retreats each year. The all-expense-paid weekend provides Gold Star Wives a place of solace, respite, and relaxation among others who have endured similar tragedies, so together they may help one another heal.
