Steps Away Beach Cottage offers a truly special Cape Cod location just steps from Pleasant Beach in West Harwich. Set on a quiet private cul-de-sac with ocean views, this well-loved seaside cottage is ideal for families and couples who value location, privacy, and easy beach access over modern finishes. It’s an ideal coastal retreat for families, couples, or two groups vacationing together.
This is a classic, family-owned Cape Cod cottage with original character dating back to the 1960s. The home retains many of its vintage details, including traditional tile, original fixtures, and retro charm throughout. It is clean, comfortable, and fully functional, but intentionally rustic rather than newly renovated. If you’re seeking a modern or luxury interior, this may not be the right fit. If you’re looking for an authentic, old-school Cape beach experience in an exceptional setting, you’ll feel right at home.
Guests love the privacy, the easy one-minute walk to the beach, and the convenience of off-street parking. No beach stickers, no circling for spots. Free WiFi, cable TV, and Roku streaming are provided.
The Cottage
Steps Away is a traditional New England-style beach cottage surrounded by a charming cottage garden with wild roses, spiraea, honeysuckle, daylilies, Russian sage, lantana, and fountain grass. The front patio is a favorite place to relax. Grab a sundowner, listen to the surf, and settle into Cape Cod time.
Originally built as a one-bedroom Cape with a picture window facing the ocean, the home was later expanded with a two-bedroom addition featuring a bay window. Together, they form two attached yet private and secluded suites, each with its own entrance and outdoor space.
This listing includes the entire cottage, providing private access to both suites, patios, and the partially fenced backyard. The layout is ideal for large families or two couples traveling together who appreciate shared space with a bit of separation.
Each suite has its own outdoor BBQ area with picnic table and charcoal grill.

Beach Access & Location
The cottage sits on a quarter-acre lot and is the second house from Pleasant Beach on Pleasant Road Beach. Guests access the beach by crossing the quiet road and using a deeded right-of-way path. The walk is easy and takes about one minute, making it especially convenient for families with children.
Pleasant Beach is a wide, family-friendly public beach along Nantucket Sound with clean sand and gentle waves. This is the “warm water” side of the Cape, without the dramatic low tides of the Bay side. Guests enjoy swimming, shell collecting, boogie boarding, long shoreline walks, kite flying, and listening to the surf in the evenings. You can stroll the shoreline for nearly a mile in either direction and even walk past the breakwater to swim across the Herring River into Dennisport.
The Area
West Harwich is just west of the Cape’s “elbow” and east of the heavier Upper Cape congestion. The drive from Boston is approximately 1.5 hours. Harwich is known for its cranberry bogs, Long Pond (the largest lake on the Cape), access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and summer games with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
You’re close to restaurants, bike trails, golf, tennis, kayaking, and family-friendly attractions such as go-karts, trampolines, and bumper boats. Day trips to Chatham, Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket are all easy from this central location.
