What an ideal base Seahouses is for exploring the area. The 'Bucket & Spades' apartment is ideally located just a short, flat walk into Seahouses itself with beautiful views of the Farne Islands and the sea. Well equipped, clean and comfortable with everything you could need including your own parking space plus a lovely beach just across the road.
Bob and Linda were very helpful and the hospitality and welcome you get from people in Northumberland; whether it's in a shop, on a trip or in a restaurant has an extra kind of warmth mixed in with their friendliness - I definitely want to go back.
This holiday was aimed at giving my 78 year old mum a change of scenery for a week and she thoroughly enjoyed it and was also very tired by the time we got back home! We visited many places and would recommend them all; Bamburgh (Grace Darling Museum worth a visit), Amble (a lovely port with wooden pods where people are selling their crafts, fudge, trinkets, paintings etc), Alnwick Gardens and the next day we did Alnwick shops (although a younger family could probably get them both done in a day, we didn't visit the castle). If you're into reading, visit Barter Books - one of the largest 2nd hand bookshops based in a former railway station at Alnwick. You can sit and read them while you are there and they have a very wide range of subjects to choose from.
Rothbury is a lovely town/village and on the way you can visit Cragside House and Gardens (not open on a Monday though!) We also visited Berwick and a few other villages. Can highly recommend the Craster Arms at Beadnell and also the Olde Ship Inn at Seahouses. Check the tide times for Holy Island on the internet and plan what time to go or, there is a board up at Holy Island with the times on. We also went on a boat trip (Golden Gate) to the Farne Islands and landed at the famouse lighthouse where Grace Darling lived. The trip was informative and you had the option to go into the lighthouse. This particular trip you don't get attacked by the birds - so check which tour you go with. With the others, you pay for the boat trip and if it's one where you land on the Islands, you pay a separate landing fee to the National Trust once you've bought your boat ticket.
All in all, a great stay in a great apartment with plenty to see and do. Look forward to going back.
