Some of the lamps are connected to wall switches, which can occasionally make them appear not to work if the switch is turned off. We're truly sorry the bear encounter left you feeling shaken. Seeing black bears in the Smoky Mountains can definitely be unexpected for first-time visitors. While bear sightings are actually very common in our area and many guests consider them part of the mountain experience, we absolutely understand that it can feel intimidating if you're not used to wildlife encounters. For safety, we always recommend guests avoid approaching bears, keep food secured, and remain aware of their surroundings — just as local wildlife officials advise throughout the Smokies. Thankfully, black bears in the area are typically focused on finding food rather than interacting with people. We also appreciate your feedback regarding cleanliness and mattress comfort.
